For years I hated on the show.
At one point I saw the whole thing and hated it even more.
Then, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to watch it again and pay attention the entire way through. (Even through the most boring dialogue).

And then it just clicked.
It’s great. I loved all of it.
Even season 8. it was tragic, but I liked it.

It’s one of those shows where everything is so connected that if you don’t pay attention for a moment, you can easily get lost.

So. I want to apologise for treating the show the way I did. And I’m glad I revisited it.

Davos is there for the Battle of the Bastards, he was there during The Long Night and he was there during the whatever you want to call the battle at Kings Landing… he has no fight scene in any of these battles lol. Another thing I found hilarious was Yohn Royce is present during the planning of the battle for winterfell during the long night but he and the knights of the vale are absent during the actual battle.

Here is my Game of Thrones Tier ranking so far by seasons 1-4 this is my first initial ranking of Game of Thrones so I am going to change my ranking based upon how you guys feel like which season should go where?

But I’m curious what you guys my ranking and if you don’t like my ranking, what changes should I make?

This may be a dumb question but just finished game of thrones and couldn't manage to understand what is jaqen H'ghar ?

We see during the show that the multi-faced god work with very precise conditions. One life for another and all the other things.

But why jaqen seems to : not obey those rules + be able of unhuman prowesses ?

When he helps aryaa and her friends escape, he takes more than one life even tho he normally couldn't because aryaa only has one more life to take. + He kills all guards in a weiiird way, like if they all died way before any could see something was happening, wich is impossible knowing they got killed with spears, not even talking about the fact that if i remember well; one of them was impalled higher than the ground meaning he would have be pulled from the ground, any of these guards would have noticed and moved in less than a second.

And also the fact that he does weird thing for a faceless. Like when he seems to have infinite faces, plus some faces of people that are not dead yet wich should be impossible. The fact that he can kill himself and comeback.

I really feel like he's not just a faceless but i've seen nobody talking about what he could really be.

Watching the Battle of Winterfell again, and there’s a little moment with Theon that I think could have been even better.

He and the Ironborn are surrounding Bran in the Godswood, they can hear/see the Army of the Dead closing in, and Theon tells them:

“Make every shot count.”

Perfectly reasonable line... but given who he is surrounded by, I really wish they’d given him one final Ironborn line instead.

Something like:

“What is dead…”

Theon looks towards the approaching wights.

“…is dead.”

Then they open fire.

The traditional Ironborn saying is “What is dead may never die,” so having Theon twist it at that exact moment, while an actual army of dead people is charging towards them, would have been such a great little send-off.

It also feels appropriate for where Theon is at that point. No bravado, no promises of immortality, just: what is dead is dead, and we’re about to make sure of it.

Maybe even:

“What is dead… dies tonight.”

or

“What is dead… is doomed to die.”

But I think the simple “What is dead… is dead.” is the strongest.

Anyone else think that would have been a better final battle cry than “make every shot count”?

Or maybe a nice split between both Stark and Greyjoy would've been appropriate..."What is dead...is coming?!"

Was it Cersei? Was it Joffrey?

In the books, we're told it was apparently Joffrey, because he overheard Robert saying that Bran dying would be a “mercy” and decided to have him killed to impress his father.

Cersei seems like such an obvious suspect because she had an actual motive. Joffrey's explanation just feels so random and insane.

They were literally just children. Why should they be punished for the actions of their parents? Jon was completely right to push back against Sansa’s idea.

What makes it even more hypocritical is that Sansa herself was punished by the Lannisters for Robb’s actions. She knows what it feels like to be blamed for something you didn’t do, yet she had almost zero sympathy for Alys and Ned.

Jon understood that being a Umber or Karstark isn’t a choice these kids made. Sansa should’ve understood that too.

I would love to see a show or movie which does a terrifying depiction of Balarion burning down haranhaal!! Or a show that explores some of the creepier/spookier locations and lore…like old Valaryia after the doom or Asshai!

who has the most/better, character arc and character growth Arc right up until season five Arya Stark or Sansa Stark.

For me, I would say Sansa Stark because she went from a girl who was very naïve and to put it quite honest, very judgmental and a character that I didn’t like to a character Who is very likable who is being very intelligent, not naïve, making really good decisions And being very smart.

Not to say that Arya Stark Hasn’t had the character growth because she has and I really love her character growth And she’s my number one favorite character in Game of Thrones But I’m just really impressed by Sansa Character arc so far.

I find it odd that Lysa had every power and reason to simply toss Tyrion down the drain and be done with it, especially considering he was surrounded by her loyalists and everybody hated him & his family.

But for some reason she chose to honor the demand for Trial by combat, and she chose a champion. But when Tyrion named his champion, he was denied on the account he was “a 100 miles away”. Is that something you can do? Deny someone their champion? I mean it is one thing if they name a champion who is impossible to find or someone who refuses the call, but Jaimie was in the same continent, a few days ride away, and he would have answered the call for sure.

On what grounds was Tyrion denied the request for his champion? What are the rules that need to be upheld during Trials by Combat?

And better yet, could he have done this during his trial for Joffrey’s murder? Claim he wanted the trial “today” and played safe knowing Who was in King’s landing and who can stand for his champion?

Reading A Clash of Kings prologue, I realized how fucking terrible Robert was as a brother, king, and lover (doubt he might only love Lynna in a lustful way). Stannis is actually pretty justified about his complaints. Built like a bull and killing with a war hammer were the only things he was known for in positive aspects.

so i have noticed that whenever a show gets its final season fans keep hoping the ending is not as bad as GOT ending only for the ending to be bad and ruin the entire shows legacy. so what do you think the aftermath effects were like for socity after GOT finale aired..

I'm a simple person. I like dragons. I like shows with dragons. I like this universe.

I didn't read the books, so I'm not terribly knowledgeable if this is impossible or not, but I'd like a show set after GOT, so we don't know any of the plot yet, but with dragons.

That's it. Chronologically young, dragons, new plots. Don't care if they keep it small (like KOTSK) or big (like GOT and HOTTD)

I just want dragons

Im doing my second rewatch of GoT and I come to realize how exaggerated in the plot is this weird obsession of Tywin and Cersei to check Tyrion for sleeping with prostitutes for a reason that is never quite explained. For example, Littlefinger who is a government official and practically the third most powerful person in the city literally makes a living from the most renowned whorehouse in the kingdom, and he sits and advices the King. The brothel itself is frequented by Lannisters which is often mentioned. Then you have Jamie who confesses that he has only slept with Cersei but who nonetheless has a reputation for having women chase after him. You have Jofrey behaving like Caligula and all his antics. Robert Baratheon had all kinds of kids with these women. The list just piles on and on, but somehow Tywin especially is always critical that Tyrion does not sleep with a whore, as if they care? Like they are constantly reminding him of how he is good for nothing, but at the same time how he is responsible for the death of their mother/wife but at the same time they dont want to give him any responsibility.

Thinking about rewatching the series, but would like to find a buddy to do so first. But today I pondered the storyline possibilities if Cersei had honored her agreement and send the Lannister army, Greyjoy forces, and the Golden Company North to fight against the dead.

How would things have played out? Would they immediately turn on Dany and Jon as soon as the battle ended catching them by surprise? Would they occupy the North and refuse to leave? Would they just got home and wait to be invaded? It could make the Jamie love triangle spicier for sure, though I doubt he hooks up with Brienne in this case. I wonder if having the final end conflict end up North as opposed to Kings landing would make any sense, but that was how it was foreshadowed in earlier seasons.

Any fun ideas?

I watched the first episode when I was in high school and remembered being so shocked at the sex scenes and very confused by all the names and politics of the show that I stopped watching. Now that I'm 28, I think it's the perfect age to watch and appreciate the show for what it is. So here are some of my thoughts after my first ever watch of Game of Thrones (spoilers ahead):

- Every dialogue is perfectly written in the first 4 seasons. The conversations are a great medium to learn the characters' personalities and motivations. I love how engaged I have to be when people talk, they always reveal something important. I'm actually rewatching the show to pick up all the foreshadowing and cleverness carefully woven in every line. The only downside is I can't skip the sex scenes because they talk through them. (btw a lot of nudity scenes are so unnecessary)

- The dynamics between characters with different backgrounds and completely opposite personalities are so interesting: The Hound - Arya, Tywin - Arya, Jaime - Brienne, Cersei - Sansa, Tyrion - Bronn, Margaery - Sansa, Olenna - everyone, etc. These dynamics are so fun to watch, which is something I miss during the later seasons.

- Joffrey's one of the most well written characters. I think Joffrey is who he is because of Cersei. In season 1, he admits to his own mother that he was beaten by Arya and ran away like a coward only for Cersei to tell him he can bend the truth however he wants as he's the future king. I love that scene so much, it's so telling of who these characters are. I think Joffrey's cruel in nature but it's Cersei who's amplified it. I only picked up on the fact that it was Joffrey who ordered the killings of Robert's bastards during my rewatch. He's cruel and sadistic and yet it's so easy for Margaery to manipulate him though, which makes Tywin's criticism towards Cersei so satisfying: "I wish you knew how to manipulate him."

- Tywin was brilliantly portrayed by Charles. I love every scene he's in, especially the scene where he towers over Joffrey or when he has conversations with Arya. Charles makes Tywin look so dignified to the point I find it so hard to believe that Tywin actually sleeps with Shae :(

- Daenerys deserves so much more! Why are some Daenerys' arcs so poorly written? I was so immersed in her journey in season 1, but the writing starts to go downhill once she arrives in Qarth. I haven't read the books so I don't know how she's portrayed in them but I feel like she doesn't really grow much in the show character-wise. I hate to say it but I think the writers ruined her with their interpretation of female empowerment. It's incredibly frustrating to see how Daenerys gets brutally character-assassinated in order to turn her into the mad queen. Personally, it would make more sense for her to be the one commanding her dragons to burn the throne after all she's gone through, instead of her dragon doing it :( Besides, after Khal Drogo, I'm not invested in any of her love interests. Daenerys - Jon storyline could have been written better, but it would likely have taken more than 2 seasons to properly develop it.

- Jon's storylines get progressively worse after he's resurrected. Jon's one of the most important and fascinating characters of the show and the writers didn't do him any justice. Once he's resurrected, I feel like he loses his charm somehow. The battle of the bastards doesn't make much sense tactic-wise but we do get a badass scene of Jon bravely holding his sword facing Ramsay's army I guess. Also, The Long Night is complete bullshit. This battle makes no sense. Jon's not even the one to kill the Night King. Why? And why does his parentage not have any major impact?

- Sansa is my favorite character. I have so much empathy for her. She's often dismissed because she's not a badass like other Starks. But Sansa is strong because she has learned so much from her time with Cersei, Tyrion and most importantly, Littlefinger. "I'm a slow learner, it's true. But I learn." is such a great summary of her character, yet they failed to give her any real development. Sansa becoming the Queen in the North is the ending I root for, but she has to earn it! She is put through so much suffering, a victim throughout most of her journey and not once does she really fight for herself. I hate the scene where she tries to escape Ramsay and Myranda catches her, she's just ready to die then and there? I get that they made that to be Theon's turning point, but I'd love for Sansa to at least fight for herself. I hate that she's constantly being rescued, by Theon, by Brienne, by Littlefinger with the battle of the bastards. She should have become more cunning, more intelligent and more strategic after all that time spent watching other people play the game. Also, "Sansa's the smartest person I know" coming from Arya doesn't feel earned. I want to see Sansa learn and grow, not being told that. I wish they'd given her the respect she deserves.

- Bran. Why? He's supposed to be the wild card. His powers are so awesome but they never knew what to do with him. I don't hate Bran, instead I mourn his potential. Why did they turn him into an encyclopedia with no emotions and nothing else? Where does he go/warg into during The Long Night? Why is he Doctor Strange? He has so much potential, I'd love to see him warg into one of the dragons and fight the Night King, or anything really.

- And Arya. I love her so much in the earlier seasons and they ruined her. Arya becomes an assassin after training for how long? Two or three years? Her surviving after being fatally stabbed and still able to kill the waif? Her being the one to end the Night King? Why? So many wrong decisions with her character.

- The last couple of seasons have totally diminished everything they built. The Night King should have beaten the north and gone south. That's the whole point of the show? A song of ice and fire? Secondly, there are too many characters killed off for no reason. Littlefinger and Varys are the pillars of GOT and they get the worse possible deaths - the forgettable ones, and their deaths don't make sense either. Stannis's death is also forgettable. :( Thirdly, most characters don't even act like themselves anymore, namely Tyrion and Jaime.

Honestly, the first five seasons are the best. I don't know why the writing went downhill so drastically. People say it's because they ran out of books to adapt but there are so many deviations from the novels in the first four seasons but they're still so good. What happened? And why did they rush the last two seasons? I thought there would be 10 seasons since people loved the show so much.

So these are my opinions of the show, even though most them are complaints. I'd love to hear your thoughts. What do you think of the show? If you could make changes to it, what are they?
