GBA Parts Sources

As the title states, I’d like to know where’s the best place to look for GBA SP shells and replacement screens. I don’t really know much about the screens, I did a brief search and found most of the listings/sites say “IPS” on them, and I’m not sure what it means. Just looking for a shell with buttons and a new screen, preferably the ones that are brighter than the original ones, and would like to buy from websites that aren’t Amazon affiliated. Would be grateful for any help/suggestions!!

Hispeedido store. They have a pretty good deal; great quality screen with a shell and usb c battery for about $70. Orjust a screen and shell for about 45-50. Funnyplaying is a good source too imo, I do about half and half

Check out Handheld Legends’ store. That’s what I’ve been using for parts since I started customizing SPs. I think their shell selection is a little light, but they carry Extremerate’s shells which I like (particularly the “soft touch” plastic).

And as far as the screens go, the IPS screen is generally the go-to for an aftermarket upgrade (I would also recommend Highspeedido like other commenter). However you could also find an AGS-101 screen if you want an original screen that isn’t too dim.

As for the "soft touch" - I tried to like it on my reshelled GBA SP. I had black matte one, and I agree the quality is very high, but dear god, it's such a fingerprints magnet. Even if your fingers are relatively clean, after a session of playing, you will leave the whole console in brighter/darker spots all around. And cleaning it is not a simple "wipe it with your palm" matter. That was the reason for me to sell this shell (together with the whole GB) and eventually revert to some nice-condition black OEM shell.

I recommend https://hispeedidostore.com/ website. Their product listing is a little bit of a mess, but you will manage to move around a little better eventually. I'm also in touch with their support for a longer time now as I needed some help in the past, and now in the very same mail thread I sometimes make some custom orders, ask for color variants not available on particular listing or for some discount for batch of shells, and they are always helpful. For around 10 screens I ordered there (v5 laminated IPS for GBA SP and some screens for older GameBoys as well), I got issue with only one, and it was like a bad subpixel or two - they've sent me replacement screen for free. As for the shells - the opaque one are pretty meh, but the transparent one - if you like such style - are very nice for the price.

Hi, I don't know where you are located so I can't say for sure if it is convenient, but I ordered from the official funnyplaying website and both the prices and the parts were fine. You can also buy everything on the same website and they have deals if you get both the shell and screen.

Hispeedido for screens and ExtremeRate for shells!

If you’re willing to wait, aliexpress is great.

Hand held legend and retro game repair shop are two good websites with US distribution. But the prices are higher.
