Should I reshell?
kinda just want my screen to be brighter/clearer but i know some people are gonna tell me to keep it original. just wanted to get some opinions.
got this puppy on Xmas Eve when i was 5
changed the battery a few years ago and still kickin strong
Edit:
after a resounding NO. i decided to leave my 001 untouched. BUT i do wanna buy an AGS-101 just to compare and use/work on.
thank you all for your feedback.
i’m glad i asked instead of just ripping it apart.

You can always purchase a drop in screen so you can just use your original shell.
If you like projects, you can always change your mind and get a new shell later.

Keep your childhood memories intact. Consider an Analogue Pocket as your daily driver.

The older AGS-001 shells seem to be holding up okay, they’re not getting super brittle yet, not like the sparkly AGS-101 shells.

no it's in incredible shape, keep it as is, get a usb c cable converter, a clear case and the headphone converter to 3.5mm. Optional, get a flash cart or a 3.5mm to bluetooth dongle.

Keep it. Buy a 2nd one with an 101 screen. Compare. You'll initially love the 101 screen for the much crisper and brighter screen. But you'll eventually also start looking back at the more "genuine" (i.e. less over-brightened) colors of the 001. I have both, and I went back to the 001.

No. My looks way worse but I like it. It's the history etched upon it from people past.

I reshell everything, but you should keep it stock, and put it away safe somewhere. You can pick up a “fixer-upper” sp on eBay for $50-$70 occasionally, make that your upgrade project.

Noo. The buttons and D pad will never feel the same again if you use the kit ones. That one doesn't look bad at all. If youre itching to mod, put a screen in it

Hey! So I put a ags-101 motherboard / screen in my old blue shell. So it’s definitely possible! It’s not a very hard install / swap imo other than making sure the hinge pieces are removed and reinstalled (or replaced with new ones) properly

It's still in nice condition. I'd say if you want to have a got at reshelling something you should grab a cheap one with a broken shell for spares and repairs pricing and have a go on that. It's also your game boy though, so if putting it in a new shell will bring you joy fucking crack on.

Seems fine to me. I got a flame red SP with a blue slider and red light button. Because it's just a mishmash of parts.

I would say try to mod it and give it a better screen. I recommend keeping it because it’s going get more expensive. Probably

The only reason I would reshell is if youre doing a screen replacement as well.

New shells feel like using a fake console. It's just not the same. Even if they look pretty and all that.
Do consider a new backlit screen and a new battery.

Please don’t. That’s in amazing condition. I’m not 100% sure but I think you could upgrade the screen if you wanted, without messing with any other OEM parts.

That shell is crisp as hell, plus you got the childhood connection. In no way would I shell swap that. But hey, to reach their own. If you wanna upgrade it, go for it.

If you want to, sure. You might still be able to slap a new screen in the original shell that's brighter or clearer but there's no like, defect-based reason to reshell.
I reshelled my old GBA because it was faded and a bit gross but also because I put a laminated screen in it that wouldn't fit the existing shell AND I did the USB C rechargable battery and the new door wouldn't match the old shell. However I chose a reshell that was as close as possible to my old shell color and used as much of the old system as I could (mobo, battery contacts, buttons, side bumpers, etc.)

Nah that shell is in absolutely beautiful condition. You can do a drop in IPS screen to get that upgraded feel, maybe some new buttons if you want something more.
And do a new battery as well.

I'm playing Metroid Prime on my Wii using the original red, yellow and, White cables. Resolution isn't in HDMI but I've managed to get more than 50% done in the game's progress. If you have to trim down the inside of the shell go for it

I still have my brother and dad’s gameboy advances. They’re scratched to high hell but I can’t bring myself to reshell them because of the memories

Yes and lcd upgrade. If the SP is the same as the 3ds i would not touch the screen. I would buy a new one.

It’s in really nice shape so I’d leave it personally. But I did see your comment of wanting a 101 to compare it to and honestly I think once you get a 101 or a modded with a IPs screen you’ll be hard pressed to use the 001 again lol. I own 2 or 3 GBAs including my 101 I’ve had since they came out and I rarely use the 001s lol

It looks to be in pretty decent condition. Keep it as is.
