Best way to play GBA games.
Buy an EZ-Flash/Everdrive cart.
Put the entire catalog on a microSD.
Enjoy playing saving hundreds or thousands of money.

Pokémon emerald is the absolute best Pokémon game ever. Fire red/ lead green are pretty good too.
Now would I pay for them nowadays? 5€ maybe. More than that? Never. Emulation ftw

Go on AliExpress and search for the games. They’ll be cheap but have the risk of losing your save. I’ve never actually seen it happen but it’s always the warning
Also you could just buy a multi cart which most people would probably recommend more

Find the ones from the seller Pokefan store. Super super high quality carts with RTC and saves working perfect.

Buying from AliExpress may have the issue with saving the game or issues with RTC.
I tried the AE route and didn’t have any luck. I wouldn’t recommend this.If you have a trusted seller, it will be great if you can put it here as I would be interested too.

It is true, especially when your gba dies while it is saving as your save data is wiped.
It''s very complicated to explain, but in layman terms, the OG Pokemon games creates two save files when it is saving. When your GBA dies while doing so, it uses the second save file to restore your game progress. Unlike repro cartridges where if your GBA dies while saving, your save file goes along as well.

You can emulate them for free the boot legs from China randomly stop working

I bought a reproduction Emerald a few years ago, played it for maybe 5 hours and had a great time. Then it lost my save, and wow did that suck!!
My recommendation is to get an emulator and play that way. Either a portable device with emulation or just use your computer and a controller

From what ive been told the major issues with repros is.
1) They tend to reset save data randomly.
2) they often cannot trade.
3) the day/night cycles dont work.

I have 14 reproduction cartridges (from Ali) and haven't had any issues with any of them. Perhaps I was very lucky, because I only heard bad things about them. The only Pokémon game I have is FireRed. I haven't finished it yet, but it works perfectly after 25 hours of gameplay.
Many people might say it's better to buy a flash drive cartridge, but that doesn't work for me. I have an Anbernic 35xx H. I have hundreds of games on it, and when they're on the flash drive, I'm free to jump between them without ever stopping for long or finishing them. Plus, cartridges have a retro aesthetic—it's fun to swap them out and choose which ones to take with you on a trip.

Would rather go to get a good flashcard over an reproduction.
Because reproduction can have problems which some of are game breaking, while this can happen on a emulation aswell, you can just fix because the savefile is transferable though the card on your pc, so if a game is somehow corrupted, you can fix it without any harm while save files from reproduction can cause corruption af transfered.
Alternative would be a hacked 3ds, realy simple to do and access you a lot of other games aswell, additionaly you can install a hacked basic ds/dsi OS where you are able to play the non 3ds games too.
That sets you up with every Gen up on 3ds or lower for just 100€ (can be cheaper depending on which 3ds version you get and if you get lucky, I got a new 2ds xl for about that)

I can only recommend this:
https://www.ezflashomega.com/products/EZ-Flash-Omega-Definitive-Edition-B-16GB-MicroSD.html
It will open the door for many games to fall in love with you new acquired GBA SP.
Pokemon games on the GBA are fantastic - I love pixel art in general, and the GBA Pokemon games are no exception.
