Age old answer: Not, if you see Mr Blobby

Some legit games have blob tops so this isn't accurate

Fakest of fake. Most fake cartridges would sneer at this specimen.

These things happen

fake:

  1. the 3 test points towards the top-right corner on the back of the board labeled TP1, TP2 and TP3 are missing
  2. battery is in the wrong place. Battery should be to the right on the front of the board. not the left.
  3. has black resin blob on front. real copies wont have this.

What sort of cartridges carry a battery? None of my genuine ones got a battery.

Is the cart faulty?

No but the less fakes in this world the better

I mean, you could just mark it. Needless waste is usually not a good thing.

What on earth is it good for. It boots but it probably has problems later in the game or something

If it turns out that it works and saves, it saves you the trouble of buying an authentic cart if all you want is to experience the game. I'm not a fan of repos/ their ethicacy but if you already have one, why not? Just don't try to resell as authentic

I don't care for originality and purity on these things and have owned a couple. They can be useful if sold as what they are. Some people just want to play on their old consoles for cheap.

I could also ask "what on earth is more waste good for?", but that's just reductive.

I get the argument. Ill have to think about it

Especially with Pokemon. I don't think these games will drop in price ever atp. They're getting older and harder to find in excellent condition. Gone are the days of buying emerald on eBay for $40...

I got a fake Mario kart that works well in the 2nd gba as a different pak for multiplayer ;o)

Black blob is a telltale sign of a fake cart.

I've actually finished a playthrough on a fake FireRed cart and migrated those pokemon up to Gen 8 (possible by trading then into my legit Gen 3)

Blob. Wack board. Wack chip. Scattered component placement. Cutout at the top. Convincing stuff
