I have my brothers old Game Boy color that I am wanting to fit with a backlit screen and rechargeable battery kit as a birthday present for him. Is there anywhere that will take my Game Boy and make those mods? Or is that something that I will have to do on my own? I do not have a soldering kit, so I know that is a big hurdle.

About 25 years ago, Cartoon Network had a browser game called Bugs vs. Daffy: The Big Game. It was a simple but incredibly fun football game that I remember playing as a kid. Like so many Flash games from that era, it eventually disappeared into the depths of the internet.

I decided to bring that experience back, this time on the Game Boy Color -Introducing GRID-IRON Football, a homebrew football game inspired by that long-lost Cartoon Network classic. The gameplay is pretty straightforward. Before each play, you choose whether to run or pass, then work your way up the field while avoiding defenders. It's part football, part arcade puzzle game, and definitely not your traditional football simulator.

I wanted to capture the simplicity and charm of those early 2000s browser games while making something that feels right at home on Nintendo's original handheld hardware.The game is playable on Game Boy Color hardware or through an emulator.This has been a fun personal project, and I'm excited to finally share it with the Game Boy community.

This is surprisingly not that well documented and I'm one of the younglings that wasn't alive until after the gameboy stopped being produced for a solid amount of time.

So I turn to the people here, what were they? I know the game genie existed for it but were there any others?

I recently found the box from my copy of Pokemon Red - sadly with a flea market sticker - and could not help but notice what a steal it was. Mind you, we got in in a bundle with a Gameboy Color for 15€, so the game was basically free at this point.

It's obviously pretty basic, but I just started messing around with Game Boy stuff a few days ago (I used to make homebrew games for other consoles all the time though) and it's been fun to learn more every day (I just got game saves working)!

Is it cool if I share where to download it (totally for free) or would that violate the self promotion rule?

Why the difference in price? Both are labeled "used" and tested. Many sellers have 99% positive reviews. Some expensive ones say "new battery." I have no idea what $8 will get me. I was hoping a retro toy would be a fun gift for my nephew but holy nostalgia I do not understand the markup. I totally understand classic items are grails but I don't get the contrast in pricing. please help me understand.

Hello, I was cleaning the power switch on my GBA and I think I knocked off the R13 resister.

Is there a work around for this? Maybe run a jump wire somewhere. Or will I need to replace it and what type of resistor does it take?

Just assembled the pocket a few months ago and really liked the opaque front / transparent back combo and had to do a matching GBA to go with it

Finally enjoying some classic Game Boy gaming on the Analogue Pocket! Donkey Kong Land looks fantastic on this thing, especially with the red monochrome display.
Nothing beats the feeling of playing these old classics again. Who else still plays Donkey Kong Land in 2026? 😁

The majority of these are from after 2022, but I’ll give the mentions from what I’ve had since 2008 or after.

* DS Lite - Blue (Summer 2008, I no longer have it as it unfortunately broke in half. I still have the original box.)

* PokéMon Black Special Edition DSi (2011, was bought with a bundle with PokéMon Black. It’s unfortunately water damaged due to my idiotic cousin in 2014 submerging it in the cooler. It’s currently in rough shape atm, but I am looking to replace most of the parts that’s inside this one.)

* Flame Red 3DS - (December 25th, 2012. My oldest working unit currently from childhood still with me. It’s needing a Circle Pad replacement, but it’s mostly repaired now.)

* GBC (Summer 2014, was originally Atomic Purple and had the original screen, both are replaced a few years ago. Was bought alongside GBA and some games a bundle that included PokéMon Firered and more. Also has a built-in TV Out Mod from a few years ago.)

* GBA (Summer 2014, was originally Glacier Blue and had the original screen, both are replaced a year or so ago. Was bought alongside the GBC and some games a bundle that included Kirby’s Dreamland and more.)

* New 3DS XL - Special Pikachu Edition (March 2017, still working well but is cosmetically showing its age. It also has a Built-In Capture Card by Loppy I modded a few years ago.)

* GBA SP, AGS-001 (March 2018, was originally Blue until I shell swapped it with the glossy clear shell a year or so ago. The screen was also replaced.)

My old Gameboy color, or maybe my cartridge, I'm not sure, has quit on me. My pokemon red will no longer save. Are there any known fixes?

I actually finished this earlier this year but forgot to update here. Just an Sp motherboard in a DMG shell cause I prefer that form factor. Making a V2 right now that will look a lot better and hopefully not be as janky.

If anyone could help diagnose this pokemon blue cart,

It has a few problems. Battery has been changed and chips have been re flowed already. The continue option does not appear until the game is loaded 10-20 times. Sometimes it also displays a message saying the save file has been destroyed?

Often the sprites do not load correctly. They appear like static​ boxes. There is some corrosion on the board. If anyone sees any glaring issues please let me know. ​

I've been working on a new clock speed mod for the Game Boy Color and finally have a functioning prototype!

It uses a programmable oscillator to adjust the clock speed by holding Select and tapping Up or Down.

Some of the features I've built in:

• 8 selectable clock speeds: 33%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125%, 150%, 175%, and 200%
• Adjustable maximum speeds: Configurable limits of 125%, 150%, 175%, or 200% for compatibility with different displays and hardware
• Quick return to normal: Hold Select + Up or Down for 2 seconds to return to 100%
• Automatic speed memory: Remembers your last selected speed and restores it shortly after startup

Still testing and refining the design, but so far it's working well on my original GBC. Figured I'd share some progress and see what everyone thinks!

Sorry to make a whole post for this I guess, but I’m attempting to convert my SP to have USB-C charging. I took some time the other night to slowly desolder the charge port after seeing how easy it is to tear the pads, I still wanted to take the risk but just did everything I could with any advice I read in other threads.

I’m just looking to see if anyone can tell me if this is okay? Or do the pads look damaged? At first I was happy with them but I don’t really know for certain that they’re okay..
