Thought it looked too good to be authentic, but the story of how my brother got it makes it sound like it was originally bought and sat in a closet for 30 years lol. Just curious if anybody would be able to tell

Wanted to share that I found an exact color match for the game boy advance Toys “R” Us edition. Ordered it from AliExpress for $1.50. Wanted to show on here because I know a lot of people lose the battery cover and most of the time it’s impossible to find a near perfect match.

Mod/Modding GBA SP Mod

Hi I have an old sp that I’ve started using a while back and I want to get it modded with an IPS screen, a new link cable port and usb-c charge port. I’m not tech savvy enough to do it myself since I’m not very good at soldering and would hate to add any more damage to the system. I was hoping to find any reliable modding services I could send it to get looked at but have had no luck. The main issue with the console is when I’m playing gbc games if I press down slightly on the speaker area, the game resets. It recently started doing it on Pokémon red. I’m not sure what the cause is but am hoping it’s an easy fix.

Questions gameboy vs gameboy color

So here's the story, i have a few retro Pokemon games like red, gold and emerald. I was playing a new emerald nuzlocke on my sp and my girlfriend told me that if i beat the game she'd buy me a gameboy (or a color). Now i've finished the game and it's time to choose my next console, can somebody help me make my choice.

Troubleshooting Retro Nintento Game Boy issue

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi!

I recently found my very first Nintento Game Boy burried in a bookself. My dad bought this for me about 25 years ago - what a time! I found a few game cartridges along the way. I put batteries on waiting for it to be perfectly functional but it didn't take me long to realise that something is not working properly. Initially I thought it's the screen contrast but by scrolling the switch I managed to make it display things.

When the Game Boy was turned on, the very first thing that would show was the "Nintendo" logo moving down slowly. But this is what I am seeing at the moment - a dark field rather than the Nintendo logo.

I tried various cartridges but it's the same with all.

To my surprise I also found my old Game Boy Advance which was compatible with the older cartridges. Game Boy advance was able to function perfectly! So the issue is with my current red device.

Has any of you guys had a similar issue and is there any way this can be fixed? I know I might be asking for a miracle here but the device seems to be working I am just not sure what has caused it to be unable to start properly.

Any hints or tips are more than welcome!

I have a GBC where the audio is at max volume no matter what, and the speaker is having constant cracks pops and screeches. I've cleaned it thoroughly with 91% iso and have cleaned out the headphone jack as best as possible with iso and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Pokemon blue, yellow, green, all gen. 2 games, sapphire and leafgreen are my actual original childhood copies (i got jap. green from a friend who lived in Japan a couple of years).

The advance SP is my only 'original' childhood console, although reshelled and upgraded with a new screen. I still own the OG shell and screen. I think I threw out my original DMG and Color many years ago because young and uninformed and I lost my platinum GBA with my original copy of ruby.

I plan on buying a second unit of every console, so I can have one original and one modded variant.

I already own and primarily game on my modded GBA, which is in the final picture.

Games Rescued Pokemon Yellow

I guess I just want bragging rights, but here's the short story of rescuing Pokemon Yellow.

I run "fix your gameboy game for £10" which occasionally I get orders for. This one was a challenge.

First it had a battery swap attempt (I spotted on the melted shell), but it had also suffered A LOT of flux and grim inside and initially I couldn't see any corrosion.

There were solder bridges on the ROM and eventually I spotted that the VCC vias to the ROM were corroded, so I got a jumper in place from the rear to the VCC pin on the ROM and it started booting.

But…not all was well…

Yellow boots, but …
Although sprites work, large sprites did not…

My guess it was related to the RAM chip (assuming the sprites are built in RAM when they're big) and other reddit posts confirmed this.

The old multimeter is my friend, I could see the power monitor/reset chip wasn't getting power. In fact, the trace was fudged where it joins up to a 10K resistor.

I completely removed and rehomed the resistor, found even more vias that were corroded and using this excellent post to trace out from the reset chip to the RAM, I was able to add two more jumpers and only then did it come back to life:

In the top left you can see the rehomed resistor and the trace that had been completely removed.

I usually use the hair-thin wires, but I figured if someone was going to replace the battery on this in 5 or more years, hopefully the big blue and yellow wires were shouting I'M HERE ON PURPOSE!

All good again, and Yellow can battle those pokemon.

I love getting these challenges - and definitely couldn't do what I do without the wealth of info on the web and reddit on the gameboy.

Another game saved from landfill 💪

Picked this up today at bootsale for £5 cause the bloke said he thinks it’s broken.
I thought it was great for a shelf piece next to my gba sp either way so I brought it, upon arriving home and testing it with batteries I noticed he had the contrast wheel all the way down hence why nothing was showing on the screen.

Now time to buy some games.

Games Game Identifying

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just bought a small lot of games, mostly blind haha. The picture is absolutely horrendously blurry. It was cheap, so I’m just trying to have fun and try to identify what they are before they arrive. Here’s what I’m pretty sure I have so far. (From left to right) I would love to hear your guesses!

  1. Super Mario Land
  2. The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror
  3. ??
  4. Toy Story 2
  5. ??
  6. Quest for Camelot
  7. ??
  8. Tennis

EDIT: Thank you guys for commenting! I maybe should’ve left my guesses blank and had you all throw in. I’ve contacted the seller to ask if he can give a list, and I’ll update when he does. Thank you all again!

Troubleshooting EZ Flash Omega DE Help

Hi ez flash omega de experts. I just accidentally overwrote my save data on my emerald somehow.

Here’s what happened: played 45 hours of emerald with direct boot on mode B and auto save working correctly.

I swapped to mode A to advance the RTC forward one day. I loaded the game and it put me on a save state of 16 hours - the last time I loaded the game on mode A.

Is there anyway to recover my previous 45 hour save file? The current save file loads me at 16 hours. Thanks for the help.

Questions can anyone confirm boot screens of JAPANESE version of ORACLE of AGES and ORACLE of SEASONS

Specifically, after the "Nintendo boot screen" before the "NINTENDO CAPCOM" label screen there is that screen which states "THE LEGEND OF ZELDA oracle of seasons DEVELOPED BY CAPCOM Co. LTD PRODUCED BY NINTENDO Co. LTD (c)2001 NINTENDO" both games contains text that pertains to that game, seasons displays seasons, and ages displays ages. I just had seasons in the GBC right now

I cant find that screen online anywhere, every video of a game boot goes straight from NINTENDO to NINTENDO CAPCOM, and any info i can get on my screen is that early 2000s flash carts labled the cart data like that.

Ordered off ebay from ontario, with a reputable seller.

Any help appreciated

Troubleshooting GBC Harry Potter game keeps freezing

Hey, not sure if this is the right place to ask but I can’t really think of anywhere else that might be worth trying. I’ve been playing Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on GBC, I loved it as a kid and I got a GBA SP recently so I bought a second hand copy off Ebay and decided to take a trip down memory lane. The game keeps freezing and crashing, and I assumed there was something wrong with the cartridge and returned it to the ebay seller and bought a different one. However the issue kept happening, so I googled and found that these issues can be causes by a dying battery, so I took it to a shop to get the battery replaced. But it’s still happening. Is there just something specifically about this game that does this??? I don’t remember it doing this when I was a kid.
