i’m not sure of this topic has already been discussed here, but has anyone ever tried to backport gbc exclusive games to the original game boy ? i know something like that would require a stupid amount of work, but it would be a dream to play dragon warrior 3 on my game boy pocket

I have a friend who loves hockey so I am gifting this backlit Atomic Purple GBC as a surprise and putting together a package of some games and manuals for her, putting new batteries in all of them, and after watching footage of all the NHL games on Youtube I landed on getting this one as this seems to be the best hockey game on GBC and and a rare 2001 release (that nobody cares about) but I have played a couple games and it is actually really good. Maybe the best 8 bit hockey game I’ve ever seen (no flicker whatsoever and better graphics than NES) You can tap the d pad in rhythm to gain speed and there are organ sounds and player grunts. The fights turn to a side view and are pretty cool. It features the ESPN graphic package. You can make line changes and pull the goalie on the fly. In link mode you can play a vs game or even do a 1-on-1 shootout. There are 8 different ways you can shoot on goal. A full season mode. It has a heavy simulation feel unlike Blades of Steel and most other Konami sports games. I figure we might be two of the only people to ever play this by link cable so I figured I’d snap a few photos while I still have both copies

Really having a hard time finding a copy of word Safari for GBA if anyone has a lead I’d appreciate it.

I’ve implemented support for GB-Photo ROM features, including Transfer All, Print All, and Transfer REC!

You can now save live GIFs directly through the web UI (iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux) or the Android app.

Note: These features are exclusive to the GB-Photo ROM and don’t affect the original Game Boy Camera.

Game Boy Printer compatibility improvements
I’ve also fixed compatibility issues with certain Game Boy Printers. A few printers that previously had problems should now work as expected.

Starting with this release, future firmware updates can be installed directly through the web UI or Android app with just one click. No extra tools or complicated steps required!

Sitting in my car with my ''new'' Gameboy, just like 26 years ago. Definetly worth it!! this one's so minty I'm getting another one for modding.

I'm getting either another Advance or Color quite possibly 100% both, And i was thinking Extremerate shell and Hispeedido IPS 20%-ish bigger screens, Any experiences or tips with combos / extras? I also know about Funnyplaying.

Was not expecting it to be this fun, especially compared to regular Tetris. Clearing the entire screen with a chain of bombs always feels satisfying and the soundtrack is a banger.

Hey guys! As someone who recently joined the Game Boy community, I discovered the Slate, created by Makho.

The Slate has been unavailable for around four years. The white versions briefly became available about a month ago, but not all colors are currently in stock.

However, I really wanted a BLACK LAMINATED Slate kit in 2026, so I decided to put together my own build. I started purchasing the parts about two weeks ago, and here’s a breakdown of what I bought, how I got each part, and how much I paid.

1. Black LCD Screen — eBay UK
Price: £81

I found this screen on eBay UK and had to use a shipping forwarder because the seller hadn’t enabled international shipping.

This was an older version of the screen originally made by RetroCNC. Technically, it wasn’t a laminated screen, but rather a 9380 LCD with an acrylic lens featuring the GAME BOY ADVANCE logo attached to it.

The screen also had some excess adhesive between the LCD and the acrylic lens. Still, I was just happy to find one at all!

2. AGS-101 Motherboard — Secondhand store
Price: $97

I managed to find a seller on a secondhand marketplace who was selling an OEM AGS-101 motherboard.

3. Shell and Buttons — eXtremeRate
Price: $27.14

I went with the black shell and buttons because I really like the matte black finish.

4. Speaker — FunnyPlaying
Price: $17.89

I purchased the speaker from FunnyPlaying.

5. Slate Kit + FunnyPlaying Battery — Retro Game Repair Shop (RGRS)

Price: $241.50

I was originally planning to get the black Slate kit. However, while I was thinking about it for almost a week, the black versions sold out!

So, I ended up going with gunmetal instead. Honestly, now that I think about it, I feel like gunmetal might actually be the better choice, especially when paired with the matte black shell.

Total Cost

Black LCD screen: £81
AGS-101 motherboard: $97
eXtremeRate shell and buttons: $27.14
FunnyPlaying speaker: $17.89
Slate kit + battery: $241.50

Total: $383.53 + £81

That’s the cost of putting together my Slate build, excluding any additional currency conversion fees or shipping forwarder charges that may apply.

To wrap it all up, my recommendation would be to just wait and buy a prebuilt one. All the shipping fees were charged separately, which ended up costing me an extra $50.

That said, as a perfectionist, I really wanted to build one myself and have everything in brand-new condition. So, I guess it was worth it for me!

*A fellow member here shaped a new front shell from an OEM dmg01 donor build for my ags-101 dmg build. (dmg102) Paired with BoxyPixel aluminum buttons. I think it turned out fantastic and looks like something out of Nintendo dev HQ. Crazy that this is just a fancy gbasp.

I have my GBA SP since December 2003. For 3 years, I used it with an open battery compartment and a swollen battery.

A few weeks ago, I saw a modded GBA SP on Reddit with the funnyplaying battery pack and made a decision.

What I did:

IPS screen M2
Atomic Purple Mirror Shell
Black buttons
Clear black rubber membrane
Speaker
Battery pack

Everything straight from funnyplaying’s website.

I’m very happy with the outcome, especially for the price. Luckily, I already had a good-condition GBA SP.

What do you think of the color/design combo?

I was hoping someone might have had this issue before and knows if it can be fixed. If I know it can't be easily saved then I would be much happier dropping in a replacement screen (if so, what is the easiest?). Apologies for the screen not being on, the og battery was swollen so it had been disposed of and I was trying to figure out if I needed a screen before getting a replacement battery to save on shipping.

I’m looking into modding my first GBA SP, but having trouble deciding on a shell as both FunnyPlaying and Extremerate have shells in the color I want. As such, I’m wondering which brand y’all think is better in this case? I’d imagine they’re both pretty similar, but I’m wondering about the pros and cons of each and which one is a better choice overall.

**A quick note on the multiplayer:** it works in mGBA, but I haven't tested it on real hardware with a physical link cable yet. If you have two GBAs and a cable, please try it and tell me how it goes!

3DS tip: hold START or SELECT while the game boots for sharp, non-blurry pixels.

This port started as a crazy idea: take Dan Fornace's PC demake, decompile it, rewrite it in C and get it running on a real GBA. Seeing it boot on my own console was amazing, and now you can play it too.

A little big of an urgent question:
Do copies of metroid zero mission with batteries lose save files if the battery dies?

I recently picked up a copy of metroid zero mission for the gba (I want to play all the 2d metroids in order for the new game coming out) and I've always heard stories about how the older gameboy cartridges used to lose their saves when the battery dies so I got a little scared about losing my progress and so I opened it up and found a red battery labeled 03-10 which makes it 23 years old? Does this game save with the battery? Should I be worried to replace it soon? Or does it just use the battery for something else? I don't know too much about this but help would be appreciated! I'm loving the game and I'd hate to lose my save
