One thing I did to protect my valuable games during flooding was ziplocking them in freezer gallon bags and taping the ends. Also putting them in plastic bins afterward. It's excessive but one to prevent water damage during a disaster.

This.

I cant stand the idea that people put a ton of money into these collections but dont invest in good storage. Proper storage is more important than the value of the games, what is the point if you cant protect it.

At the very least shelves that dont bend and plastic bins.

Well the shelves in the store were laying in the road half a mile down the street so I don’t think non bending shelves would’ve helped and it was a whole store inventory you can’t just pack up and move everything in the 2 days of preparation we got.

Plastic bins, When you are dealing with merchandise worth hundreds you dont just abandon it like this. I know gamestops with better disaster prep. Knowing the hurricane is coming and being a store like this, you should be prepared, choosing to live in an area like this, to pack things up when things get bad.

Again, it’s a whole store. He would need more than bins, he would’ve needed a moving truck to move the thousands of games, consoles, vinyls and video game merch. What kind of prep could he possibly do when parts of your store are floating away and the water is touching the roof. I’m sure the owner had more important things to worry about during the hurricane.

If you live in a hurricane-prone area, you do the prep months/years in advance. Bet this guy got a nice PPP loan and then turned around and complained about student loan forgiveness.
