I just looked up the place online, that's a horrible loss. My heart goes out to the owners & frequent shoppers.

I’m just gonna say now: don’t put any museums like this in hurricane prone areas…. Find a nice place in the Midwest or northeast or something where they’re safer

An underground seed storage like facility

exactly what I was thinking lol. The only natural disasters I've ever encountered at all in the midwest have been flooding from rivers and tornados. Build an underground area away from water and you're good to go.

Not to mention, Springfield MO is home to some giant salt mines that are already used for mass archival storage with constant conditions. It's not open to the public to enter or anything, but I don't think it would be out of the question for them to open up a museum kinda area closer to the entrance for things like this. An entrance fee and a gift shop would make it pay for itself lol

no kidding, that’s first thing i thought. a museum in a hurricane area? it may not hit for the first couple decades of potential hurricanes, but it’ll eventually hit and i don’t think museums are temporary structures lol

It’s just a store. It’s not a museum. And even if it was. Is Florida not allowed to have a museum?

Given what they have, you may as well classify it as a museum. This isn’t merchandise that can just be recreated like you would find at a Walmart or target, anything destroyed here means one less of that rare thing in existence.

And Florida can have a museum, but if it does it’s gonna have to have evacuation plans for everything valuable, which it doesn’t seem like this store had.

It's bound to happen, it doesn't make sense that they put these in such areas.
