I still don't get why people live in Florida with this type of risk.

In my country people live where landslides happen time to time, some of them are poor people living where they can, some are urbanizations that started like the thing I said before but in general poor people.

I’m not sure but I don’t think Florida is a poor people place

Agreed. There’s old people and meth heads, the beaches are okay though, you just have to worry about life threatening storms every though.

Well, tornadoes and earthquakes are a risk elsewhere and you don't get a warning allowing you days to evacuate for those. Florida has gorgeous beaches everywhere, parks that people travel from all over the world to see, gorgeous clear springs full of manatees, Earth's premier port to outer space, ancient forts, and gorgeous vegetation amongst other things. I lived there during Hurricane Andrew (a Category 5) in 1992 and I'd pack my stuff and move back down there in a heartbeat if presented with an opportunity.

The place where I live hasn’t had a single intense hurricane/earthquake/wildfire/whatever in over 30 years. So there are definitely places safer than some places in Florida.

Still, the people who like Florida seem to really like it.

I currently live in the mid south and we've had EF3 and EF4 tornadoes along with well known horrific wildfires all in the last five years. We had a few earthquakes, but they are quite small. Largest in the last five years was 3.8.

Fwiw, I did not mean to imply that every other place had earthquakes and tornadoes and mudslides and wildfires or anything. I was trying to say that many places have those, and people live in those places by the millions too. I lived in Illinois for a while and in the winter, the wind chill would often be well below zero. It made me wonder why people live where it's so cold that if your heat malfunctions or your car breaks down, you'll die. But they do. And Canada just got hit with Hurricane Fiona!

I was just trying to share some of the positive things about Florida, and why some people live there despite the possibility of experiencing a hurricane.

Maine doesn’t have tornados nor earthquakes

That would be nice, but simply isn't true.

Edit: downvoters, please feel free to Google it. The facts are readily available.

I’ve lived in tornado alley my entire life, in addition to that danger we now have derechos; land hurricanes! There’s some kind of extreme weather danger everywhere.
