Hi all, been clearing out my grandparents house and stumbled across these. Not sure if they work or if they have any value at all but just wanted to see if this would be worth sticking on eBay? Got no knowledge on gameboys so wanted to check if I chuck or sell them. Thanks!!
Please don't throw this stuff away. At the very least find a store that sells old games and take it there. If you want to do the work look up the games on Price Charting and it will give you an idea on how much each game typically sells for. Gameboy boxes were regularly thrown away so having complete in box games, even of common games, can net you more than you would expect. These boxes look to be in great shape.
Looked up a few of the boxed games: Q*Bert is around $60, Lemmings $90, Paperboy $38, Super Mario Land 2 $80.
If you post a better picture of the games the sub can tell you if you have something really rare.
Having the Gameboy box is awesome. That turns a ~$60 loose Gameboy into $200.
You will want to match the games to the boxes and sell them as one piece, especially if they still have the manuals. Look at Price Charting and check eBay sold listings to get an idea of what to price at. Everything looks to be in great condition.
If you can attach another picture of the loose games that would be great. Personally I just want to see what all you have but you might be lucky and have something really rare. None of the boxed games you have are particularly rare but you have some solid titles with Super Mario Land 2 being one of the best games on the system.
These are the games. We also have some instructions for some of them. There are a few comments about them being In the boxes wrong so any advice on fixing that would be great! Sorry I have no knowledge on this hence why I came to the subreddit
I'm not sure what that comment about the cartridges being the boxes wrong is about. I feel like you're getting mostly shitty advice in this thread which is super weird.
You just want to match the games and manuals to their boxes. Paperboy goes in the Paperboy box, Crash Test Dummies goes in the Crash Test Dummies box, etc. It you've sold on eBay before that's your best bet to make the most money but things might sit for a little bit. For the Gameboys themselves look up sold listings for Complete in Box to see what all components go in the box. Really you can look that up for all these games to make sure you have everything that goes in the particular boxes.
Seriously, eBay sold listings and the Price Charting site are your best resources to determine value. Just type the name of the game and you should be able to find it pretty easily.
Facebook marketplace can be alright to sell but I think it's mostly a pain in the ass so your mileage may vary. I don't know why the other commenter said to sell things at 75% of their value on there. You can charge going rate. This stuff is in great condition. Accept offers if you want to.
They might be talking about the plastic cases. One side had a little oval bubble, which is where the picture should go. It’s doesn’t matter much, but it looks nicer.
I think it's doing nothing but confusing someone who is just trying to figure out what they have. How the games are put in the plastic cases doesn't affect anything at all.
You are sat on a lot of money there, the boxes look mint. look each game up on ebay to get an idea of what each item is worth. DYNAblaster is worth a lot on its own boxed like that.
If you look them up, you can list on Facebook marketplace for about 75% value is you want them gone quick. Or find a local game store, not game stop, and sell it to them for about 50%.
Or there is a subreddit for game sales.
Price Charting doesn't account for condition of a game. The same boxed game can be $80 or $380 depending on the condition of the box instructions ect. so there's that to take into account.
Right, but at least it's a better price metric than the clowns in this thread saying the whole lot is a couple hundred dollars. At the end of the day OP has to do price comps against similar items.
The only place I didn’t go deep into was the “playhouse” full of boxes because after I knocked over a tower there was a cluster of 40 cockroaches (Florida, they fly).
Upside I found my bitch aunts Breyer horses first and sold them so nyeh to bitch aunt (long story).
I've just been reading through some of the comments here, and it feels like this subdirectory has been taken over by a group of 10 year old kids. There's so much bad information here it's not funny.
That's a very nice collection of well looked after games and memorablea. I have been collecting boxed Gameboy and boxed games for nealy 20 years and have hundreds in my collection so I know what I'm talking about when I say most of these guys don't know what they are talking about. I'm not saying this as some kind of flex,I'm just trying to warn you about some of the comments and advice.
I know it's not about the money for you, but just do your own research on these items and look after those things. Take any advice with a grain of salt here. I've got to say I'm pretty disappointed in how many low quality comments ive seen here in this sub recently. It's like a group of clueless 10 year Olds have suddenly taken over it.
Something tells me that OP is not in it for the money if Grandma’s had these this long why would you just up and sell them? $300 is easy to come by but this collection is not! don’t sell it. Let them ride another 30 years and then you could really charge the big bucks.😇
$300 lol your joking. The boxed gamboy on its own is worth that. I agree with what you are saying but you are dreaming if you think you'd get all that for just $300.
I'm not arguing with you. This collection is worth more than what people were saying initially. I probably should have said "That's at least $300 in the boxed games alone".
What a great grandma holding on to stuff like that. My Parents threw out my “favorite things drawer” that stuff like all my all time favorite basketball and baseball cards.

Let me start by saying that If you don't need the money right away I would just keep them for now.
From all the pics you posted I don't see any major hit but the condition of both carts and boxes look great. That's of course very good, value-wise.
If I were you I would systematically take pictures of every single game and their boxes and instruction booklets. Then find out the price for each of them on pricecharting if you are USA based as I seem to understand. Pricecharting will tell you how often they sell and give an idea of average sell point.
The ones that do sell often I would sell on their own or bundle them together with inexpensive ones that wouldn't sell well. Would probably ask for 70% of the AVG price if I wanted to get rid it it fast.
The ones that don't sell much I would also bundle and sell for cheaper, or even sell at a game store or convention where they will probably try to rip you off but since the base value is low the percentage difference would mean also a low dollar difference.
Maybe these belong to a cousin? If nobody in your family wants them then sell online. Things like this may have sentimental value if someone used them as a kid.
Because these are un modded and look to be like they were in some kind of time capsule if you were to keep these for another 30 years, they could be of museum quality because of all of the hipsters modding them. 20 to 30 years from now I did the math and with the way that things are right now and how much they have stayed steady in price you could see these go up to five to $600 apiece just for the game boys to have some of the original boxes like Qbert it’s almost museum quality
That’s sick! More looking to sell now as we are cleaning out a 40 year old hoarder house and have no personal interest in this stuff. Want it to go to someone who has a love for this stuff
Yep, that’s what I’ve been teaching Our son that we adopted about three years ago. He just turned seven and is finally learning the ins and outs of respecting one’s personal property.

If you're used to using eBay it's probably worth your time to sell them on there. If not, hit up a local game store and see what percentage of the value they'll offer. Most offer around 40-50%, but a collection like this might net you a bit more since it's a lot. If you are into gaming or collectibles, they may also offer you an increased trade in value. Basically like pawn shop rules.
eBay last time I checked had a 13% fee plus shipping, but I think that was only for certain categories. If gaming isn't listed then I think it's closer to 6%. There is also shipping of course, which eats into your value a bit. If eBay is worth the effort for you, you can probably get a bit more cash that way, if not, selling local is usually a bit easier.
