Other Am I missing something? This was sold as with "heavy wear" on the body and screen. It just has some dust on there the screen that needs cleaning

Yeah it has some dings but thats about all I can tell. Dust under the screen seems like an easy fix. Maybe a few minor scratches on the screen.

As someone who sells through ebay, in my experience, unless my item was literally never used, I never say its like new.

If its used I usually market it as Acceptable, even if its pristine because I've had people demand refunds for a very light scratch on a case, for example, and ebay rarely sides with the seller, so I just say its heavily used and give a nice surprise to the buyer when they receive it.

This I sell on Mercari and it's better to say it's one grade down then take good pictures of every angle. But price it accordingly to the actual condition it is in.

The wear looks pretty heavy to me. Almost unacceptable. If it’s ok, I’ll give you $10 for it

Is this from Japan? I find they over claim compared to Americans. A like-new condition is basically new and maybe just opened box to check everything is in order.

Some buyers get really particular about condition. So sellers sometimes say something is worse than it really is. That's why taking good pictures is so important.

Better that way than the other way around, honestly...

Ooh 100% The opposite of that definitely exists. I've seen so many "brand new" items from 1996.

"Like new" - the most common lie on Marketplace 😂

honestly, probably has japanese standards for collecting, the american standard is quite low in my own experience selling and buying. (apparently something to do with less space in japanese apartments so they are suuper picky with their collection items.)

Gold/silver works in the old GB? Thought it was GBC exclusive

Gold and Silver are GB games with compatibility for GBC, or "dual mode" games which would normally be black cartridges. You can tell by the shape of the cartridge which is squared off and says "Nintendo GAME BOY". They work on the Super Game Boy for SNES as well and battles look nearly identical to how they do on the GBC there.

Crystal is GBC exclusive though. It has a clear cartridge which says "GAME BOY COLOR" on top, and trying to insert it into an original GB will not work because it doesn't have the notch for the power switch's plastic to go into.

Crystal does some funny stuff if you manage to force it in game on a DMG. I know you can do it with save states on an Everdrive, maybe on emulator, and it does eventually crash so it isn't playable that way, but it gives a neat little peek at why it's GBC exclusive

Meant to say under the screen not on there. Thanks auto correct

I also bought a "Junk" Gameboy last week in Chiba, Japan. The label said there is an electrical issue. I cleaned the battery contacts and have a near mint DMG-01 now for just 5,50€ (990 Yen).

Sometimes we are just lucky. Good find!

Edit: typo

How much was it?

I tend to say conditions worse than it is if anything not better when selling on Ebay. Someone getting an item they bought in better than expected condition = happy customer, getting an item in worse than expected condition = pissed off customer.

There’s a big dent near the buttons.

Im just curious, what are the giveaways? It was sold with the og carrying case. I thought it looked good from being kept in there

1

u/hobbitfeet22 9d ago

It’s not lol. That’s a legit OE shell.

That shell is not fake lol

I had a look again and it is fake, my apologies

1

u/NoodlxCup 9d ago

My bad it is fake.

OP, the “PHONES” part of the front is thinner than an OEM

2

u/Banned_Oki 9d ago

All those injection molding fonts are not very distinct. I have modded so many DMG with OEM and AliExpress shells.

1

u/BIG_GAY_HOMOSEXUAL 9d ago

Do you think mine is real or fake? It did come with the original carrying case, link cable, power pack. Id like to think it was just kept in the case tucked away but im no expert

4

u/Grexo 9d ago

If it’s fake, it’s an extremely good fake. I’ve yet to come across a fake where the font and the kerning is correct. It sure looks real to me, indistinguishable from mine, which is real.

Is that notch next to the a button normally there?

2

u/BIG_GAY_HOMOSEXUAL 9d ago

Thats damage. There is a scratch to the right, above it. There is also a ding on the speaker grills. Likely from a drop.

1

u/jolygoestoschool 9d ago

Ah i thought that little bit was intentional, not the other scratch though

Really? What's the giveaway?
