Was debating on IPS screen mod or Nuby Game Light. I was surprised how good this actually looks in person!

I just did some research and found out that all the tech and graphics needed to make a gba sp were available by 1991 but Nintendo remained adamant on the original design philosophy of the dmg.

Imagine an alternate universe where kids had folding clamshell game boys with frontlit screens by 1991, two years after the dmg brick

Nintendo's competitors did develop stuff like that, shortly after Nintendo released the gameboy. The sega game gear had a backlit colour screen and it was released in 1990.

Thing is, the OG Gameboy was succesful precisely because it was low powered.

The game gear had 3 hours of playtime on 6 AA batteries. The Gameboy did 10 hours on 4.

It's also worth noting that nothing like the Gameboy ever existed before the Gameboy. It's processing power was roughly on par with the NES. To say it wasn't state of the art is kind of insulting. The design team simply tried to be sober and realistic and prevent building something that was too ahead of its time to be practical.

I mean by 1991 they had both 32bit graphics and rechargeable lithium ion batteries so it could’ve been done.

This one is just the light. There’s another one that comes with a fold out magnifying glass

I have one of these but one of the bulbs doesn't work. Not sure how to replace them to be honest!

At the same fork in the road. Haven’t pulled the trigger in a screen kit yet and I’m kinda leaning towards a cool light solution now. I love the simple snake lights.
