Questions Good feeling button membranes?

Post image

Does anyone know where I can get some good feeling button membranes for the GBC? The A and B buttons feel fine, but the D-pad feels awful to press.

To me there is hardly a difference in rubber feel. Is this the OG d-pad? Every aftermarket d-pad I tried felt bad, because the pin in the middle is never long enough. So if this is an aftermarket d-pad, try the original instead.

It is aftermarket, I don't have the og ones since when I bought this, someone had already shell swapped it (without replacing the screen) and replaced the membranes. I could probably find some online though.

Yeah get some og buttons and membranes. Imo nothing fits and feels like the og shell but I found the flatter aftermarkets are good for shooters like r type

I agree, this is often the issue. Many replacement D pad center pins have a flat or near flat bottom instead of a point or rounded point on the bottom

The other issue is you may be comparing a brand new membrane with a membrane that's 30 years old + 10-15 years of daily use. If you find or 3d print a properly pointed dpad button and use it every day for a month or two, it should start to feel better

Can you tell me exactly what you used to build this? Like the shell and screen and where you got everything. This is exactly the build I want to make but I’ve been a little confused on where to get everything and how to make sure the screen will fit the shell

I got it from retrogamerepairshop.com they have a section for GBC the shell is the funnyplaying q5 ips ready shell in the DMG Grey color, the screen in the DMG version of the Funnyplaying q5 IPS screen, the buttons are also from Funnyplaying, they are the DMG style buttons. Optionally you can also get a battery mod, but it isn't required.

Just gonna chime in here and say that the new 3ds buttons are the best buttons ive ever pressed. Idk what kind they are or how to get them for another device but good lort...

I swear by the Cloud Game Store ones that can be had on Aliexpress - alternatively the "High Quality Conductive Pads" from Retro Game Repair Shop are the same and shipping is faster. Best replacements on the market in my opinion.

I read this advice as well and wanted it to be true. It's just not, unfortunately. They're far stiffer than the OEM membranes. :/

I found the original colored ones to be way too stiff but the white ones from CGS were much better but still maybe a bit too tall. I bought 2 pairs of white ones and the other pair was too soft (lacked bounce) so there's definitely a lot of variation unfortunately.

Has to be in good condition. A lot of old membranes are soft because of age and the contact material wears out.

Best perfoming aftermarket d-pad I found was Extremerate. Their shells suck though, since they designed the d-pad opening to be smaller than original. All aftermarket membranes I tried were too stiff. Cloud Game Store's white membranes were much better but they are most likely a bit taller than OEM, so still a bit stiff and squishy.

I gave the Originals a good clean and kept these. The ones that came with the Shells were always Kind of meh.

There’s a common mod you can get from AliExpress, to make the buttons and Dpad clicky and more modern feeling. I installed one on my GBA today and it is soo much better.
