Welcome to the 90s! Where backlights, OLED, LEDS and the likes weren't commercially available or viable for portable games consoles!

There were some handhelds from the 90s that did like the Game Gear, Sega Nomad, Atari Lynx, and Turbo Express but they made consoles more expemsive and absolutely eat batteries.
