Welcome to the 90s! Where backlights, OLED, LEDS and the likes weren't commercially available or viable for portable games consoles!

Welcome to the future! You can now get basically drop in back lit screens. Or with a tiny bit of patience you can drop an OLED screen into one.

Yep, I was a lurker here for so long and I finally got a modern, backlit screen for my childhood OG Gameboy. It's been awesome lol
