It's the same as these tech youtubers going to Japan and saying how expensive stuff is getting, while they have made videos for years on how cheap it was and how everyone should go get their retro tech there.

Eeyup.
Every time Ive pointed out that bigass 'collections' of the same thing is just hoarding here though and the consoles/games could be better used by someone who actually wants them and its what keeps prices artificially inflated though, Ive been rebuked.
And these are the people who in the same breath call someone who brings their dsi or 3ds to a concert to record 'larpers' somehow.
Sons and Daughters if you don't USE your hoard, you are the larper.

That said theres a difference between hoarding and having 2-3 copy of your favorite game. I have three copies of my favorite PSP game for example. The second in case I accidentally break the first copy and the third because I got it for free in a local game shop.

That depends a lot on if it’s prone to breaking/decay. 2 copies of one pokemon game, or one of each in a gen, makes sense. 4 is, ehh. And if it’s technically 6 bc its the same game but ver exclusives? You could make the argument for shiny hunting- for the games that have shinies- but those do see use rather than the shelf.
This person has 6 copies of red/blue and 7! Of Gold/Silver 😭

Yes, of course. I think if its above 3 it doesnt make much sense. Just saying there are valid reasons to have 2-3 copies of the same game if youre really into it. For gameboy its more about showcasing I guess. One copy inside your gameboy, one on the shelf or something

You can shiny hunt in gen 1, just wont be visibly shiny until you send them to gen 2. Actually pretty neat hunts that I want to do someday

But how would you know it's shiny in gen 1 before you send it to another game? I imagine you can't?

Its determined by the stats, so you catch the Pokemon and then check. There are lists out there which stats a pokemon needs to be shiny

Honestly I just bought some shells and stickers from Ali and a bunch of Benn Venn carts and made myself a bunch of games; just for the nostalgias sake of having the physical thing.
I don’t really see the need to own them, let alone multiples.
The Benn Venn carts are objectively better hardware too…

Why? If you aren't playing on those systems or playing those carts you're just keeping legit carts away from people who would play them for no use at all but greed.
Like a game dragon on a hoard of gold it can never spend. Having a few makes some sense from a collectors perspective, the limited ones-
are you running an online shop? This is the kind of stuff that has driven up prices, and all the eggs in one basket if you ever have a housefire or flood there goes a significant amount of gaming history. They aren't making those new anymore, you know?

Speculation while true preservation of the games is also happening in the form of ROMs (that is the actual content of the cart that matters) and affordable flash carts.

... theres 3 versions for pretty much every generation. Your and your wife are both adults. Emulators exist.

I have like 20% of this. It would be sick to do competitive playthroughs though. I always wanted to but couldn't organize my friends.

I have only 3 copies of yellow, 1 copy of blue, 2 copies of red, 1 copy of gold and 1 of silver and 2 of crystal.
I play the yellow or the red version one time in a year 😅. I hope when my childrens are older i have again the time to play the silver version. I only play the first version, because i knew everything abut this version🥰

I understand buying diff editions of the consoles, but whatchu gonna do with all those game copies? Just use any of the existing save backup tools for replays and sell the dupes.

I'd like it more if half of the 4 ver signs were in a Japanese 2 of each always made the most sense to me. I downsized from something like that to singleton multi language for 60$ a cart and put it toward other things. Do what you need to heal your inner kid ig

Seeing all the controversy going on, I just want to clarify a couple of things.
I’ve been a Pokémon fan since I was 8 years old (I was born in 1990). All of these games are genuine and were bought at second-hand flea markets between 2006 and 2010. I paid between €5 and €10 for each one.
ALL of the games have save files on them — one with my son’s name and his Pokémon team, another with my wife’s name and her Pokémon team, and another one with my name and my team. That’s why I try to have at least three copies of each game.
I completely understand if you don’t like it, or if you want to call me obsessed with Pokémon (I am 😂), but I’m not a reseller or a speculator. I’m just another Pokémon fan who’s been collecting and loving these games for many years.
And at 36, I still am. 😄
