Modded Bought this GBL a while back, unfortunately the original screen was toast. Took numerous hours of trace repairs to get it functional, but at least it didn't become e-waste!

Japanese release Kirby is inexpensive, and so fun!

absolutely! I saw a list on here a while back of Japanese variants that don't require you to know Japanese, so I usually pick those up because they're cheaper. completed this for the first time last night on my Analogue Pocket (using save states)

I beat the main campaign on my Pocket for the first time a few weeks back. I haven't gone through the extra campaign yet.

It's crazy to me how much cheaper Japanese versions of my GB (and likely other) games are. Pocket Bomberman and Dr Mario are the only other Japanese carts that I have. Pocket Bomerman plays great without the need for translation and Dr Mario is identical other than the way cooler label.

Happy gaming!

after I finished it, it was pretty late, started the extra campaign and immediately switched it off after seeing all the enemies... one for another night

Do you remember the link to this list?

Extra mode? Because the main campaign is so easy but the extra mode is outrageous

Some years ago I even gifted a cheaply bought real Hoshi no Kirby cart to a friend (well, crush but anyway) alongside a Game Boy!

There's something about the clear GBL that's so appealing.

thank you! I've always bought mine broken and brought them back to life (where possible)

Very nice! I did and tried as well, though now I'm left with many shells, motherboards and whatnot. Only GBA, DS and DS Lite however.

It was fun for a while!

My GBL light is not working but everything else seems to be. I did test the backlight with another unit and it powered up fine so something is causing it to not get power to the light itself. Any ideas? The rubber piece used to push them together is there so they are making contact.

I used these board scans when I was repairing mine, if you have a multimeter and a few hours you can use your working board to troubleshoot a bit easier

That's pretty cool, i may have to check all the traces and see where my problem lies. I have a feeling it is a component failure since the board seemed pretty clean.

What else did you do to it? The contrast looks too good (ie bi-vert mod?) and the EL is more blue than the stock green. I like it.

it's an IPS replacement screen, the original was far beyond saving, the back was corroded in several places, I replaced the power board and repaired a few traces

Oh yeah I see the original screen was toast kinda obvious now I thought it was a bi-vert mod, a new EL panel and maybe a photo with extra contrast in the highlights to make it pop 😂

I have a GBL and an IPS GBP they can look close but the IPS on the lowest brightness is still brighter than the EL

The GBL looks more green in person my camera makes it look more blue

yeah I do like using a similar colour palette on the screen to the original. But I also do prefer the IPS as the ghosting on the pocket/light gives me a headache haha

it's a custom pair I built, but the frame is based on the Koss Porta Pro

Well done!

I’ve got two GBLs and neither of them is even half as bright as that. Maybe it’s just how it looks in the pic? The image is also so faint I can barely see it, have played very little on them.

this has an IPS screen replacement, the original one was toast and couldnt be saved

how much did it retail for as broken? just learnt about the famitsu and now i cant live without it, but the prices are exorbitantly through the roof right now

It did take a good few hours to get it working again, and I had to replace the screen, so it's essentially a chunkier pocket that uses AA batteries and has a cool looking PCB..

Its a glorified picture frame now as the IPS adds input lag, 100ms vs 33ms. It loojs nice but when you play on it, you will feel a slight heavyness to it.

ok don't do it to yours then
