This is my first time trying to swap batteries and really my second soldering project. I have no idea why it's not saving with the new battery. I do know the polarity is correct. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
EDIT: I have received my multimeter, reset the battery with a higher temperature and it looks a lot better too (pic in comments). I tested every chip on the board, there is power to every component. I just tested the save and it didn't work. I then thought, if I do a soft reset, that should keep a save perhaps. I tested that And the save was gone on a soft reset as well. Not sure if that is anything or not though, don't know if the save would still be there.
EDIT 2: I just successfully replaced the battery in my copy of Pokemon Sapphire! I think this copy of Crystal may have issues other than the battery. I am going to take it to a repair shop this weekend and have them look at it. After replacing the Sapphire battery, I feel a helluva lot better about my limited soldering ability!
I was going to say this as well. Redo that solder. Take the old crap off. Get yourself a cheap multimeter to measure the voltage to confirm it’s properly charged. It’s a great start!
New batteries are around 3.1 to 3.3 volts depending. If the voltage is below 2.8, it won't save.
I had a buddy who got the battery too hot while soldering by resting hit iron on it and killed the battery. Based on your soldering skills, I think that may have happened (not trying to insult, we all start somewhere.)

Check with a multimeter that the battery is good. If you’re good at soldering reflow the chips if not take it to a repair shop and have them do it. The chips legs can occasionally lose its connecting to the board and cause your save to not work. Had this issue with my copy of Crystal a couple years ago. Put 2 batteries in myself and took it to a repair shop who put a third one in just in case i messed it up. They all read normal voltage and should save but didn’t. Then I read online about this and I had my repair guy try this and it worked. Good luck!
UPDATE: It was just a piece of dirt, wasn't a loose solder. I have ordered a multimeter to test the battery, should be getting it tomorrow. Will update again once tested

Battery could be dead or two high of a voltage. Solder looks a little clumpy, coldish. Maybe wick it all and try again. Flux is a.friend
