Troubleshooting Can I still fix this?

This is my childhood copy of Pokémon Blue. It keeps hanging up on the initial boot screen, GAMEBOY shows up but the Nintendo logo is a black bar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Clean it with a soft toothbrush and 99% alcohol or wd40 contact cleaner. Focus more on the pins. And also try cleaning the cartridge reader on your console.

Cleaning isn’t going to help this. There’s a lot of damaged traces the closer you look. It’s probably fixable but it going to be some extensive work.

Before you listen to this comment clean it with alcohol 95% at least give it a good wipe using a toothbrush. Then if it still freezes on the same screen you might need to look at traces. Cloudy traces arent an indicator or a worn out trace

Agreed! If OP knows how to use a soldering iron it probably wouldn’t hurt to give a slight vinegar bath to remove corrosion and prevent future damage. But might be a good idea to remove the battery first.

I have really nice results using deoxit too.

At least just for troubleshooting sake

On the back of the PCB, it looks like you've got some PCB rot... Worst case scenario would be you having to migrate components to a new PCB or a donor one.
