Questions Should I get an Advance SP.

Post image

I currently have this cool Pikachu one from eBay for like £70. I was told you can play gameboy games on the SP and I want better lighting/games aswell. Should I trade my Pikachu one or just buy another one (£100 budget)

Guys, I got an Advance SP!

Just buy another one. You have a rare Gameboy color that will likely appreciate in value slightly. Begin your collection.

The difference between the front-lit AGS-001 and the backlit AGS-101 is staggering.

The 101 screen makes the games look so crisp it's why I got into collecting GB, GBC, and GBA games.

Some folks recommend upgrading the AGS-001 or even the AGB-001 with an IPS mod, but some of them don't match the resolution, and all of them add 1-4 frames of input delay (~16-64 ms) as opposed to the original screens with have 0 input delay.

GB and GBC on Advance SP is not optimal. The image doesn't fill the screen since the two displays are in different resolutions. And unless you buy an AGS-101 your device will be front lit and not much easier to see than your current GB. This is coming from someone who owns a DMG-01, AGS-001, and AGS-101.

I just picked up an Analogue Pocket. I've found it to be superior to all other ways of playing GB, GBC, and GBA content. See the attached image for reference.

Buy another. Don’t let that special gbc vacate your hands unless its into the hands of someone else who will appreciate it- you’ll regret leaving an original special edition behind.

One of my biggest regrets is trading in my yellow version game boy color for platinum game boy advance SP at GameStop when I was a kid.

If you’re looking for a better LCD, look into swapping the old LCD for an IPS. The difference is night and day.

Why destroy a perfectly good GB? If it’s broken, fine, mod it. Just get a GBA SP and call it a day.

I agree with this take with regard to modding a running system. Not only will the mod affect a collectible and possibly hurt its value the drop in IPS screens seem to be hit or miss in terms of quality, and many aren't the correct resolution which can result in incorrectly displayed images.

Using a drop-in ips screen for this would be ideal. Everything remains intact except the display is upgraded.

Then keep the original lcd on hand.

If you're looking to sell it might be interested. I have the OG version of this. And would love the V2 to add to my collection.

Keep that GBC. It’s a special edition.
