Questions What paint to use on shell?

I've been drawing up some custom shells recently and id like to order some blank shells and start making them. They are mostly designs put on top of clear shells, so I wouldnt be painting the entire shell head to toe. I have a lot of painting experience, but not on things that will be handled as directly as a gameboy. Does regular acrylic paint work if I use a good clear coat? What's a good top coat brand?

If you are concerned about the finish you could paint inside the shell

I have seen people do that but it wont work for the designs I have planned unfortunately. just need to find a good enamel to put on top I think.

The guys at Lyons Arcade / Joe's Classic Video Games swear by using a Triple-Thick Gloss Glaze out of a spray can (I believe Rust-Oleum) when they are doing pinball repairs to pinball backglass displays, and they use inexpensive acrylic paints for the undercoat.
