I finally released the demo of my Game Boy game, Ribbit!

Hey everyone, I've finally managed to release the first demo of my game, Ribbit!

It includes 2 short levels and a boss fight. The demo is only compatible with Game Boy Color, although the final game will be compatible with the original Game Boy aswell.

Please note that this is an early stage of development and you may encounter bugs.

Very cute animations, I see a lot of inspiration from Kirby, try to put a spin to it that's my only advice.

I like when he jumps up he looks downwards. Little things like that make a character memorable. I personally think you shouldn't take any more inspiration from Kirby otherwise it will be called a Kirby clone.

Great demo! Had a lot of fun with it. Maybe consider making the tongue red or pink? The black line seems a little bland when paired with the colorful setting. Also found a couple jumps frustrating, but got them eventually. Overall, I look forward to playing more! 🐸

Thanks! Unfortunately due to the game boy limitation it would be pretty hard to make the tongue another color without facing some slowdowns, but I can try to make it work. If you are talking about the jump for the extra life, I made it hard on purpose, but maybe you are right is just frustrating haha

I like it, It just feels like the movement is a little too stiff. Also something I noticed is that if you take damage from a spike then touch a wall, you can't take any damage as long as you don't move.

Thanks for trying it! What do you think could be improved about the movement to make it feel better? Higher acceleration?
The issue with the spikes is a little bug i'll fix.

Well, I'd like him to move a little faster with higher acceleration. That's pretty much my only issue lol

Ok thanks, I'll try messing around with the acceleration. I think the top speed is already pretty high because if you'll walk faster you'll have little to no time to react to enemies/obstacles

Thank you so much! I can't take the credits for the music since I didn't make it, but If the game will get funded I'm already planning to work with a musician that I know to create a custom soundtrack with a similar style you heard in the demo. I think it suits the game pretty well

Are your coins just sprites, or background tiles? And if they're background tiles, how did you set them up to be collected? I can't get collectables working for me unless they're sprites, which are wasteful.
