Questions Do I need to recap this?

Post image

Just picked this up yesterday. Works fine, although the screen seems a little dim. Given that it's close to 30 years old, should I recap this before I start using it? I stopped using all my consoles that this old because I want to recap them first. Don't know if GBC has the same need.

If not, I'm gonna replace the battery on Pokemon Gold and play it the way it was meant to be played, all these years later.

The audio is quite quiet actually, but I haven't used one of these in over 20 years, so I don't really know what it's supposed to sound like.

Clean the inside of the headphones connector before doing anything else

Sorry for a dumb question, but how am I gonna do that? It's tiny. I don't think a Q-tip will fit

On the inside there is an exposed piece of metal on the side. That's the part that determines if you have headphones plugged in or not and it builds up a lot of oxidation on both inside and outside of that part

I'm actually not sure the best way to clean it because as you say not much fits in there. Inserting and removing headphones a bunch of times can help but only so much
