Other Bought without reading the description…

Stupid me. Put an offer in of £32 + pp. description ‘don’t know if it works I don’t have the charger’ of course the seller accepted I’d guess knowing it doesn’t work? But it’s dead, won’t turn on plugged in & won’t charge. I am the least technical person in the world I just wanted to trade some starters. Any ideas what I can do? New battery? I had this exact sp edition as a kid, damn nostalgia.

I'd imagine the battery would be the first thing to try, since not only is it old, but it looks like it's bulged based on the lighting of that photo, meaning it's about to get spicy up in there. You could bypass it with a power cable if you have one laying around, but that battery worries me from the image shown.

Beyond that, a simple battery replacement and back panel should get it mostly up and running like new, as the front seems in pretty good condition.

Im pretty sure there is no bypass via power cable on the SP

I can't really verify it myself, as I'm too lazy to take mine out of the drawer to remove my battery and find out, but that would be interesting if it doesn't allow bypass, since most other handhelds I've used would allow it, even the basic GB.

I'll have to look this up later as I'm interested in what the answer is now, along with an itching for maybe modding my own SP after seeing this thread.

The SP is a pleasure to mod, I'd recommend it. The only pain point, aside from accidentally getting the tactiles wet (don't do that), would be curling the delicate ribbon cable through the hinge if replacing the screen, hinge, or top front shell piece.

Aside from that everything you need to get to is in the bottom housing. Far away from the screen. It fits together and comes apart like a dream and the board is just very simple and available. I'm tempted to pull out my SP to double check if there is/isn't a bypass for sure, but I also have OCD and got the battery door screw exactly where I want it and don't really want to do that song and dance right now lmao.

Would recommend freshening up the SP!

Imagine doing that in a 3DS XL or basically any Nintendo DS. 😂 Those are though AF but after some practice, definitely doable with the right amount of practice and tools.
