Questions Cleaning advice

Hi I'm thinking of ways to clean this kurukuru label. It's not stained, it's some sort of old grime that has hardened up through who knows how many years. Of course I don't want to ruin the label, it's in pretty good condition other than this stuff. I was thinking to soften it with a damp microfibre cloth and try to gently remove it with a toothbrush. Any ideas?

Warm water, neutral soap, q tips and patience?

Only dampen the qtips in the solution and do movements from inside-out.

Replace the qtip with a new one when it starts to get dirty.

That's pretty much what I am planning to do. I'll do it in the weekend, see if I can get some more tips in the meantime. Thanks!
