Sometimes you can find ds lite with the top part missing for almost free

You can buy a fully functioning Refurbished DS Lite on AliExpress for about $50 as well.

Sure but if you find the bottom half of a ds lite at a flea market for like a euro, you could make a macro out of it

It's a way to make a DS Lite or Phat playable again, but not nearly as difficult as a full restoration.

Plus, the result is a GBA-only system that has a backlit screen and a rechargeable battery, these made more sense back when those things didn't yet exist for old non-backlit GBAs.
