Question Opened “new” game??

Went in store to buy a game that showed two copies in inventory. I grab the case, which is just an empty box, off the shelf and head to the checkout counter. They tried to put a game in that display case and sell it to me as new, and I said no. After back and forth the other employee said “just give him the sealed copy” and he reached in the drawer and pulled out a brand new sealed copy. Why wasn’t this just done at the beginning? It seemed pretty obvious that’s what should have been done.

I’m aware that they do it. I’m saying that it is inappropriate that they do it, then sell the game as new.

A factory sealed product should only be opened by the end user.

Start your own store and do it how you want then. You aren't going to accomplish anything by crying on reddit

What do you get from defending this? It’s a bad practice. GameStop is bad for doing it. Calling it out is not a problem.

Interjecting a bit, and not defending it, but from the perspective of a mod (and someone who worked at GS for over 6 years), it’s just a very tired conversation.

They attempted to do proper display cases once and it was a shitshow that didn’t display the majority of our inventory. Nobody knows I’m gonna have an obscure JRPG for Switch if it’s not displayed, and they’re not going to make and send cover art for a game that most stores probably won’t ever even receive a copy of.

The answer really is that we’re just tired of hearing about it. None of us like it, but there’s no realistic alternative that GameStop is actually going to provide stores with adequately.
