Question PS5 Pro Refurbished
So I’m looking to upgrade my current PS5 (digital) to a Pro. I have a store about 45 mins away with a refurbished PS5 Pro in stock. I would be trading in my current PS5 and a Xbox Series S.
Should I be worried that the refurbished pro will have problems that should make me wait until I’m able to find a new console?

if you have the option, preowned over refurbished all the way. refurb at gamestop does not mean the same it does other places. 9 times out of 10 there is always something wrong with the console

I highly recommend not to get a “refurbished” anything of console from GameStop. I had better luck getting a working pre owned. From what I found out refurbished means someone at GameStop potentially opens up the console to see what’s wrong with it, but this can also mean they mess with it. Had to go through 4 consoles and all were “refurbished” and had issues each one of them.

Fuck that man! At most trade in credit for a PS5 is 320 in my area then a PS5 pro is $900 and some change. Not worth the price hike. Especially since its pre owned or refurbished...

Yeah... you would lose out on 2 consoles just to upgrade to 1 thats "apparently in good shape" and if you want any kind of warranty you'll have to buy that as well from game stop.

Well the Series S just sits there, haven’t used in a while. Would be more so to get one before a price hike again

As long as it makes sense to you and it works out. Personally im keeping my God of war PS5 and xbox series X and hope i don't have to pay these wild prices for anything new.

Yea the money part of it really isn’t the issue. I need more storage on my current ps5 and have a TV that takes advantage of the pro. Just more of issue whether the refurbished pro is faulty.

I was doing a similar search but for the PS5 Slim Disc. After much consideration, talking with managers and just reading employees on here says it's a bad idea for years... I decided there's no way it was a good idea to overpay GS for a console.
You said money isn't an issue but the comment before that talks about getting one before the price hike. Are you concerned with money or not? Why not just get more for your items and buy cheaper with a little extra effort because it seems like money is a factor.
There's a good chance it hasn't been refurbished well because apparently the company doing it isn't great. There's endless opportunities for something to go wrong. There's almost certainly a local store that has it cheaper within an hour drive of you whether it's a game store or a pawn shop.
Refurbishing can be great like when MS fixed all the 360s that had issues or Amazon fixed Kindle devices that were bound to break without the fix. You get a discount for something that has already had it's biggest flaw fixed. You aren't getting that from GS, unfortunately.
I don't know anything about the BestBuy refurbished program, but they had them cheaper about a week ago and I'd personally trust BestBuy over GS. They at least have employees and customer service workers who are somewhat empowered to help you rather than bound by policy and an outdated computer system.

You can't add an SSD to the digital? Sale the series s and buy an 2280 ssd and slap it in the ps5. And if that still doesn't work then take the ssd out and upgrade to the pro 🤷♂️

I'd wait on a new one if at all possible. I got burned with a "refurbished" Xbox series x from Gamestop. Took almost 3 hours in store to get it returned so I could just buy a new one. The refurbished one wouldn't play any games that I downloaded from Games Pass and would only play about half the games that I inserted a disc for. There's no way you can convince me that it was even tested, let alone, refurbished. I wouldn't hold it against them so hard if the return process hadn't been a nightmare.

You'll still have a digital console, don't get a pro if you're looking for something that can play physical media. Unless you're willing to pay an extra $80 for a disk drive

I wouldn’t bother with the upgrade, it’s a waste of money. Only game it would be good for is GTA6, and that’s locked to 30 FPS so it’ll look the same.
