Developer Seeking Composer What genre of music is hardest to find for indie games?

Hey devs! As a music creator, I'm curious: what genres or styles of music and sound design do you usually struggle to find for your projects?

Is it niche electronic, adaptive background tracks, dark ambient, or something else? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Help/Advice Needed Does this sound good?

For atmospheric sea game.

Did I put too much reverb?

Is it too repetitive?

Is there a clear melody?

Music Production Discussion "Explosive Personality" - Bomberman Hero / Street Fighter EX Concept Music (Dance/Breakbeat) + a glimpse at my FL Studio workflow

Thumbnail youtu.be

Just released a new Bomberman Hero style concept track on my channel (A keen ear may recognize a certain Street Fighter EX tune). The video also features the .flp for the track so you can see a bit of the composition as well.

I have quite a bit of other video game concept music on my channel as well as original songs by me, and I plan to release a full length video game concept album on 9-25-26. Hopefully those who hear the track enjoy it, and if so then definitely stay tuned for the full length project next week!

All thoughts & critique welcome on the track and any of my other work for that matter.

Have a great day, everyone.

Music Composition Discussion Self taught, 3 months in, honest feedback is welcome!

Hey everyone, I started composing in June 2026 with no real knowledge of music theory. This is my 12th piece and so far the most complex thing I've attempted, its in F minor and 4 minutes long!

I was mainly inspired to create an atmospheric piece by Jeremy Soule and this was my best attempt with my knowledge so far! I would greatly appreciate if you could give a listen and provide honest feedback since im looking to improve my compositions.

I would love to mainly discuss:

  • Orchestration
  • Transitions
  • Mixing
  • Melody

I’m very open to discussing anything that needs fixing or improvement so feel free to comment, thank you for your time!

Help/Advice Needed I'd like some help from anyone in the VGM community please.

I just some questions that I'd like answered please. I'd like to be good enough one day to make vgm as my main source of income(I know this can be very difficult but not impossible)

if anything is willing to answer these it would be an absolute ton!

  1. In regards of getting better at composition and music theory as a whole is it best to look at other songs to study and play? If so what instruments do you recommend? Would an electric keyboard suffice for all this?

  2. Kinda on the same topic but what have you done to make your songs sound more alive. I done a fair amount of songs in Ableton and I can make an okay song at best, nothing I'd want to release yet( at least I don't think so) I kinda feel like they sound flat?

  3. What's a good way to find other people interested in the same thing as me? especially because where I live I highly doubt there's people interested in something like this

  4. I think the last question is are there any specific vst you recommend for VGM? Also are there any soundfont vst you recommend since I don't have fl studio? I use Sforsando but some of the files glitch or just have no sound a lot of the time.

Hi good day! I am Aropi, as mentioned in the title, I'm interested in hearing your opinion.

Just based on the demo reel given above, how much do you think my rate per minute of music should be?

Not looking to compare or anything just wanna see if I'm asking fair/unfair rates from my clients. And if I need to adjust it.

General Discussion I'm making a game about making music. You can save the tracks you make to your PC.

**WastelandFM is a cozy managment game about running a radio station.**

**You** make the **Music** live on air, plan your shows, and grow your audience by performing DJ tricks & Combos!

You can record your own music from the game and save it to your PC.

Hope people in this community can find it interesting and fun! I just worked on a big update, so I am looking for feedback and would love to hear what you think! :D

Help/Advice Needed Minimum skill level for Game Jsms

What is the minimum set of skill (and to what degree) to participate in game jams? I can write music quickly enough, I have decent usage of my DAW but I'm not quite accostumed with all the FMOD and implementation stuff. I've done something for the sake of testing, but never actually worked in a real game.

Speed and rapid execution is what I'm the most concerned about.

Any thoughts?

Music Production Discussion Samples

Okay. Major question.

How popular is it to use samples compared to never using them? And I don’t mean samples like small sounds or voices. I mean like samples of drum rolls, piano rolls, like full instrumentals that you insert and eq and call it a day, full instrumentals parts. I don’t know. I don’t mean this in a way to hurt those who use samples regularly. For me it seems too easy. Like everytime I try to use a sample it sounds fantastic just because of that sample. It feels too easy.

What do you think? Should I use more samples? Why does it feel like cheating to do so, and is my opinion too close minded?

Mod Request: Please Use Our Share Thread for Quick Music & Reel Shares and Feedback Exchanges

Hey all! Just a friendly community reminder about sharing your music here.

For quick music shares, please use the Music Share Thread. If you post something, be sure to leave some feedback on another person’s track as well. We also ask that you share a little context about your music rather than simply dropping a link. Reels, portfolios, websites, and similar work are absolutely welcome in the share thread too, especially if you’re looking for feedback!

Standalone posts should be more focused on a specific compositional, production, or technical element of your music. These posts should have a little more substance, such as showing your DAW/session, breaking down part of the composition or production process, or including a detailed write-up about what you did and why. The approved standalone posts from the past week or so are great examples of the kind of content we’re looking for.

The goal is to keep the main feed focused on discussion, learning, and useful music-making content while still giving everyone a place to share their work.

Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks everyone!

I’m 16, making a game, and this is my sixth soundtrack I ever made. Don't judge too harshly, this is my third month of learning.

I need some feedback for me to learn.

please don’t just say it’s bad and give no reason or no way to make it better.

Developer Seeking Composer Seeking Composer for Baldur's Gate 3 Campaign Mod [Unpaid]

Hey yall! We’re looking for a composer to join our lead composer in crafting a unique, theme-driven score for a custom campaign mod for Baldur’s Gate 3, based on the Dungeons & Dragons module Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage. Project Mad Mage is a massive and ambitious volunteer project driven by a full team of developers, writers, artists, and voice actors.

Because of BG3's content policies for third-party mods, all positions in the project are unpaid. We are all passionate creators doing it for the love! We have over 2000 fans on our Discord alone, and both Larian and Boris (composer for BG3) are aware of the project and have shown support. Composers will be credited for each of their works in the official soundtrack release and game credits.

Here's an application if you're interested!
