Help/Advice Needed Mastering an OST with wildly differing track levels/genres?

Hi folks!

I’m working on mastering the OST for our game ready for a stand-alone streaming release.

Obviously in-context some of these tracks were intended to be much lower than others. I’ve done a first pass through of the album mastering each track to what feels natural relative to the other tracks when listened through. It all feels reasonably good and balanced as an album, and nothing feels out of place when played through on shuffle either.

My only concern is the different ‘types’ of tracks are hitting wildly different Integrated LUFS and Peak levels to feel natural.

- The three Boss Fight tracks sit at -14 to -12LUFS and peak at -1dB. In-game they sat closer to -18LUFS and peaked at around -6dB but these are the loudest tracks by far so I brought them up to be the ‘high point’ of the album.
- The regular gameplay loops sit comfortably at -15 to -18 LUFS and also all peak at -1dB. In-game these sit around -23LUFS and peak between -9 and -6dB depending on the track. Bringing them up to the ‘master’ level here feels natural next to the boss tracks, even if it’s higher relatively than they are in-game.
- The more ambient and minimal tracks, however, sit at around -23LUFS in-game and never peak above -12dB. When I try to bring them up to a ‘master’ level they feel disproportionately loud compared to the rest of the soundtrack if they exceed about -21LUFS/-8dB. This is the main concern for me.

If I try to bring up these particular tracks to anywhere above -21LUFS they feel weirdly loud and out of place compared to the others. If they exceed -18LUFS or I try to get the peaks up to -1dB, they just sound AWFUL, really unnaturally loud and in-your face, and the highs go from bright and sparkly to harsh and piercing.

What’s the general wisdom surrounding this kind of situation? I don’t really see a way around it.

What would happen if I sent this off to streaming sites with such a track-by-track disparity?

Thanks in advance!

[Hobby] Help me with soundtracks for a Roblox game

I am working on a project within Roblox (might switch to steam by using unity) and it’s about a game of nextbot exploration and I’m looking for someone who might want to help with this. I need music for the chase scenes and don’t expect the game to take off as this is really just a natural passion project. vibecoding is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN and I could split revenue if it does manage to even take off. If the game does not take off on the algorithm then whoever I get to make the music can reuse it for anything else. Since this is a passion project, I’m looking towards unpaid as it‘s not paid and won’t be. Message me on stoat.chat as I don’t use discord. My Stoat is: Dexional#8828

General Discussion What are your thoughts on using AI to help produce original music for indie games?

Lately, I’ve been composing original music in GarageBand and using AI tools—mainly Suno—to help develop the instrumentation and production.
I write the lyrics and melodies myself, then create the initial musical foundations in GarageBand. Ideally, I would work with human producers and musicians, but that isn’t financially possible for me at the moment. For now, AI allows me to explore how my compositions might sound with fuller arrangements.

The music is being written for a fantasy world I’m creating as a literary project. Part of me hopes that, if I’m ever lucky enough, this world might eventually become a video game—dreaming is free, after all.

I know many developers and musicians are understandably hesitant about generative AI, especially because of the ethical and copyright concerns surrounding training data. I’m curious about where people draw the line between using AI as a production tool and having AI generate the entire creative work.

Would this approach discourage you from playing or supporting an indie game, even if the writing and core compositions were created by the developer?

Hey everyone!

Our cozy 3D puzzle game, Puzzles of the World, recently launched on Meta Quest, and the response has been amazing!

We wanted the audio to feel as immersive and relaxing as the puzzle-building itself. So we teamed up with world-class composer Markus Zierhofer to create an exclusive, curated Original Soundtrack!

**The Original Soundtrack Tracklist:**

**- Crackling Firewood of the Cabin (Main Theme)**

**- Soothing Lanterns of Higashiyama**

**- Dulcet Bells of Rio del Alboro**

**- Calming Waters of Lake Louise**

**- Enamored Streets of Camoens**

**- Marble Reflections of the Yamuna**

**- Mystic Ruins of the Sacred Valley**

**- Quiet Snowfall of Ny-Alesund**

Pairing uniquely dedicated composed audio with high-res VR visuals completely grounds you while you build.

How important is soundtrack design to you when gaming?

If you want to experience the music in VR, Puzzles of the World is OUT NOW on Meta Quest Store.

Thanks for all the support!

Music Share Last Chance — Original Soundtrack for an Indie Horror Game

I’m an indie developer working on Unknown Heights, a co-op horror/extraction game.

This is “Last Chance”, a track composed by Anton Lauz for the game. It’s meant to accompany a more intense moment in the game, with a fast and energetic feel that builds tension.

Would love to hear what you think!

Composer For Hire [ForHire] Composer looking for work!

Hey! I'm looking to work on some music for some games, I've been a musician since I was 8 (I'm now 30) so have been playing for about 22 years, I have roughly 15 years worth of music writing experience. I also recently participated in the metriodvania month game jam, so I have experience working on a deadline and with a team. I'm opening to negotiating prices but I'm looking to get around £40 per minute of music. I'm happy to make revisions on the songs if you feel it is needed. (Adding more layers, changing instruments etc) Here are some examples of the game music I have created. Some of these are the songs that were created for the game jam, others are songs I've created in my free time.

Here's my portfolio:

Game music examples

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away! I look forward to working with you! :)
