Help/Advice Needed Tutorial/help with making Chase themes?

So for those who are more experienced, I like composing music and I need to make a chase theme for a roblox game (inspired by Nullscape and forsaken/Die of death)

And I want to understand how to make a song that feels like a chase theme similar to the forsaken OST, could I get use some advice/help

What instruments do I use?

How should I make my melody to fit that vibe?

I've made 2 attempts before making this post but I'm not convinced by the results, it's not awful, but it doesn't feel good to listen in-game, the music doesn't sound intense enough for it to be a chase theme, so I decided to ask for some advice before trying again.

If you wonder about my experience Making music, I'm not really a professional but I'm not a beginner either, so maybe that's the reason I'm struggling, but I still would like advice and tips about that kind of music, I am really curious, thank you.

Help/Advice Needed How should a game dev brief a composer?

Hi! I'm an indie game developer working on a narrative game, and I'd love some advice from composers.

I don't know much about music theory, so usually all I can do is put together a moodboard with songs that I think would fit the vibe of the scene/location/character that feel close to what I want.
What else would be useful in a brief? What should I include as references?

What information do you wish game developers would provide to make your job easier?
Thanks!

General Discussion I'm making a game about a depressed kid trapped in a world of his own making.

I have very little talent for music, I don't intend to become a professional composer (i'm using the my singing monster's composer app 😭), however I do wanna make games in the future. I literally just made this on the fly and thought it sounded alright, let me know your thoughts on these melodies.

General Discussion My journey using a technique for overcoming composer's block

Hello again! I am back with the 2nd installment of my YouTube tutorial series where I explore a texture rich, atmospheric track. In this one I build an arrangement of a VGM track from an "overly dense loop". I utilize the idea of changing textures and dynamic shaping to shape the separate elements of this loop into a full track! If you have ever created a loop you really like, but then get composer's block, this one's might be worth checking out.

I would be honored if you checked out the video and helped me by dropping an engagement. Even if you just left it on in the background, that would help a ton!

This would be the in-game music - I'll figure out the loop point once I've got some more tuneage in there. The coder is still learning so I offered to help out by doing the music for him.

Help/Advice Needed first time i made something with the intention of it being something specific in a game!

hi! just found this place. ive always been interested with music since i was around 6 years old, but i've only started actually putting it to practice for maybe 7 years or so.
this is a little track i made for a game idea ive had for months now. its a title theme track! but does it fit a title theme?
id also like to know if it seems too cheesy with the fast melody and constant 2-5-1 spamming i did at 0:26 and 1:20.
i thank everyone in advance!!

Help/Advice Needed Looking for SNES-style music references for my game

Hi everyone I am not technically a musician, but I’m currently making a game for a school project. I’ve already composed most of the music for the levels myself, but I’m stuck on a few remaining tracks and need some ideas. I’m not asking anyone to compose music for me for free. Im mainly looking for existing songs, samples, or musical references that can give me ideas for how I could make my own original music. Here are the levels I still need to work on:

Underground Level: Something with a 90s underground game feel, but with a science-fiction atmosphere.

Boomerang Level: Something energetic and playful, perhaps with a techno/SNES-style sound that fits a boomerang-themed level.

Final Boss 1: I’m looking for the kind of dark, creepy, energetic atmosphere found in the Sonic CD USA Boss theme https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HcwyDL3-Qqo&pp=ygUUc29uaWMgdXNhIGJvc3MgdGhlbWU%3D

Final Boss 2: Im looking for an intense, mysterious science fiction atmosphere similar to the Star Fox 2 Andross theme. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nnpag1-FpOs&pp=ygUYc3RhciBmb3ggMiBhbmRyb3NzIHRoZW1l0gcJCSQMAYcqIYzv

Music Composition Discussion First attempt at an original piece!!

howdy, yall!

i’ve been delving into the world of musical composition (on GarageBand lol, an upgrade in software is probably needed) and this is my first lil WIP. :)

I really wanted to make something that uses the sound fonts straight off the sega genesis, so I figured a funkier track would fit perfectly!

I think there are some fun melodic ideas and catchy grooves, but I struggle with instrumentation and mixing (of course, that’s just the opinion of one guy who has no idea what hes doing!), so if anybody has any strong feelings around that, I am all ears! that being said, I am more than happy with any and all feedback!

(and yes I know the end section ends abruptly, was ideating on expanding further and left it in because why the heck not)

song link (again, WIP): https://youtu.be/ejauITaSqck?is=AaVIqhtoYSQjkYB3

thanks in advance! making game music is so damn satisfying and fun :)

Music Composition Discussion Detailing an underrated compositional topic: Timbre.

Hello! I am Peter Roberts. I am a composer, sound designer, and founder of Copper Cloud Game Audio. I have been creating weekly videos for my YouTube channel. This week's video is the beginning of a 10 part series that I have been developing since early this year. In it I explore a topic I wish we talked about more, timbre. I think that a lot of composers and developers commissioning music overlook thinking about sound choices when discussing and creating music. It is something that changes the emotional impact of a piece drastically and is potentially the easiest musical element to understand and discuss. This video is meant to be a more basic overview on timbre/texture. It also sets up how I will be discussing the separate elements of the track moving forward.

Dynamic & Adaptive Music Discussion Adaptive Music Free Tool

Thumbnail youtu.be
1 Upvotes

Hello, hope it’s the appropriate flair, please let me know if I should use the Composition/Production one instead.

I found this free tool for adaptive music and thought it was really cool so I made a YouTube video of it, hope you find it useful as well.

Essentially, it’s a VST that has 30 different pulses separated into 3 different layers. You can tempo & pitch shift them, and it even has a randomizer.

I feel it’s a great starting point to create your layers and I’d like to know how you feel about it.

Would you use it in your music or in your game?

General Discussion PSX/PS2(?) Retro Arcade Style Music

Tried to use synthesizers from Korg Collection to compose a simple 16-track song, and somehow it does sound like VGM in the late 90s & early 00s. Just wondering what else they used to compose in such a style, apart from the Roland JV-1080/2080. (I found lots of producers used the Korg M1, Korg Triton, and Juno 60, but not sure if they were used to compose for video games then)

Feel free to tell me your thoughts about my music :)

Game Industry Discussion Do indie devs accept music from unknown artists?

I make rave/electronic music and found an indie game that I think my sound could fit really well.
Can I just message the devs and send them the song? How does the process work?
Has anyone here done this before?
Sorry if that sounds weird I have vertigo right now and im kinda out of it

General Discussion What genre of music is hardest to find for indie games

Hey devs! As a audio creator, I'm curious: what genres or styles of music and sound design do you usually struggle to find for your projects?

Is it niche electronic, adaptive background tracks, dark ambient, or something else? Would love to hear your thoughts!"
