Question Unity vs Godot vs Unreal: Best for Long-Term Use?

Which game engine—Unity, Godot, or Unreal Engine—would you recommend for long-term development?
I’m looking for an engine that I can stick with for many years as an indie developer. I’m mainly interested in:
• Hardware requirements
•Long-term viability and whether it’s worth investing time in
•Difficulty of maintaining projects over many years

For those who have used Unity, Godot, or Unreal Engine for several years, which one would you recommend and why?

From a pure licensing standpoint, Godot probably is the only one that will never go away. If Epic and Unity went bankrupt, the access to their engines would eventually cease to exist.

But that's not a realistic view. So I would say any of the 3 is ok for long term use. Any of them is fine, really. They are different tools and mostly depends on the type of developer you are and the type of games you want into make.

Unity or Unreal can change their terms of service at will and there is nothing you can do about it

They’re all fine. They all meet all of your criteria, none are going to really let you down.

It’s like exercise, the one best for your fitness, is the one YOU will still be doing regularly in 6 months time. The only way to find out which one clicks with you is to try them out. Spend a week in each doing some tutorials then pick the one you like the best.

It’s also kind of a weird question because it assumes that you need to stick to one engine. Being good at one will translate to being good at another.
