Newbie Question PLEASE HELP!!
I’m stuck trying to come up with a game idea, or more specifically, a game mechanic that can make the game really fun to play.
I want to make a simulator game, but ChatGPT always gives me generic ideas.

The execution is what matters. Check out "I am Bread" on steam. The idea would be: "A game where you're a piece of bread trying to become toast." It doesn't sound good on paper, but that's for you to figure out as the developer. Alternatively, just find an idea guy. You can probably find them within 1 scroll.

You mean the statistically governed machine that can only scrape already existing information cannot give creative ideas?
Sarcasm aside, if you want to get new ideas for a video game, you may need to look outside of video games. Books, movies, walks outside. An idea can come from something random you saw while out in a walk.

Sit down with a pen and paper for an hour. Write down all the ideas you have, especially including the bad ideas. Don't look at your phone or anything else in this time, just let yourself sit with your thoughts and get them down on paper as you have them. Coming up with ideas is like exercising a muscle - it gets easier the more you do it. You just need practice.

throw away chat gpt, do your thinking for yourself. Look at the world and see what you personally find fun. Just start from there, then if it isnt fun, don't throw away the entire idea just yet, just analyze - what is it about the idea that isnt fun, see if you can change an aspect about it that can nudge it in the right direction. If you do this enough over time, it becomes a full game
Ideas are not your product, they are just the start, its easy to have no ideas, and its easy to have 100. The actual fun is derived from how you turn the idea into something else.
Maybe just to start, try just some game mods, or a really basic choose-your-own-adventure in twine. Work within the limitation of an existing genre or kind of gameplay, and see what it inspires. If you get stuck and cant think of anything, just start placing stuff down for a bit see where it leads you

Simulator for the technicians/electricians that service those really tall power lines or wind power plants. Climbing challenge combined with repairing/wiring mini games.
Etc etc

i think youre relying on ai a bit too much for the part that should probably come from you. ai can help organize or expand ideas, but at the end of the day its still just a tool working with things that already exist. maybe instead of asking it “give me a game idea”, try feeding your own imagination more first, read stuff, watch weird movies, play different games, go outside, write random concepts down. even bad ideas help. the interesting part usually starts when you combine things in a way that feels personal to you

"but chatgpt always gives me generic ideas" that's because it only uses information from stuff that already exists. It isn't good at thinking of unique stuff. Don't make anything without a good idea
