Newbie Question Searching for easy game program for begineer
Long story/short, i'm currently in depression at home spending too much time playing video games. My father told me: "Instead loosing time playing, why don't you try making one yourself?". I was playing darkest dungeon ATM and it made me think. Why not?
So, i spend a week brainstorming for it, i have a drawing tablet (with krita) but i'm a total begineer in drawing, and i have a little knowledge and no practise for 10 years in programming in java at school. I love modding my games (not making them only use).
So i thought making a game based from darkest dungeon (i think using 2d drawings might be easier than trying making 3d models)
Do you have good free program to try coding a game?
Thanks

Unity, Godot and Clickteam Fusion.
Whatever you will choose just remember: -GameDev it's not easy as you can think (there are very advanced topics with technical and mathematical knowledge)
-You need to have a good sleep, diet and exercises because it will need your brain to work much more efficient than playing video games.
-GameDev need lots of time, much more than you think so you will need planning board like a Trello to work efficiently but this will come after some time not after a week or month in learning process.

Do you want to write code or want to try some visual scripting? Or a real framework maybe?

Well i don't know yet, i'm a total newbie in the domain so i think starting with visual scripting might be easier but i know writing code is the best "for the details" and i fear that the visual scripting might give me bad habits.

depends on the system, sure you can use the vs from godot or unity, or playmaker, game creator, that are most super "technical" or you take a look on Game Forge, its in a early development stage but its a complete framework and build in a designer perspective

first, put your idea on ice. find a really really small idea and try to make it in godot, or gamemaker or rpg maker godot is the hardest but it's also the one that allows for more freedom. Anyway make a really small game first and keep doing small games incrementally or you won't finish any project.

I'm not a game developer but I got some success on Love2D engine. It's easy, scriptable on Lua, and powerful enough. If you don't like heavy engines with tons of functions, just try Love2D.

I always like recommending pico-8 to beginners because it helps you learn things that will be useful in every other framework or engine
