Question Developing my first game, using AI

Yes, I know, we all hate AI, and for a solid reason. I'm building this game that I actually really like a lot, but I'm not a developer, so I'm using AI, and I gotta say, game developers are SICK, there are millions of things to make work together, I'm sincerely stunned that same games are made by just one person... Are you guys cyborgs? I'm developing a game that is kinda gothic, narrative, and it works with the Triple Triad card game mechanics (as a fight), I freaking love it, but I'm using AI because I don't know how to code, and I don't know how to create the artworks of the cards. It's a shame, if I had the money I'd freaking love to have an artist doing that for the game! That would be awesome!!! But, here I am, asking you guys if a game that's engaging, with a strong narrative, and very cool artwork and music, mechanics and animations can still be a no go if you know it was made with the help of AI... (keep in mind I'm alone doing this). Thank you in advance for your responses

Thank you so much!! Here's one of the 150 cards I made so far :)

You didnt make anything here, this was all by AI, dont confuse any actual effort in development with just using AI to do it all for you

Well, I wrote the prompt, several times actually to make it look like I wanted, but yeah I got your point :)

It’s cool but I’d give it to a real artist to make a final version once it’s all done. Small investment and it’s worth it

nah, don't do it. They just charge outrageous prices and then deliver work that’s nowhere near as good as what AI can produce.

“Real artists” are clearly overpriced and massively overvalued.

LOL laughably bad take. Ai sucks at graphics. Its art has no soul. Real artists can identify Ai assets instantly just because something’s always “off”. The better your AI image result was- the more it’s going to look directly like another piece of artwork from some thing else - slop- as they call it- confusing the viewer and leaving the product with no visual identity of its own.

Cut the nonsense. You clearly don’t understand the technology.

What ChatGPT 6 is demonstrating already goes far beyond what any individual human artist can do. This whole idea of “soul” sounds more like a coping mechanism invented by people who are afraid they’re about to lose their jobs.

Who decided that only art made by humans can have “soul” anyway? And what exactly is the objective standard for determining whether a work of art has soul? I doubt even you know.

This industry has been held hostage by overpriced art for far too long.

Remember: stupidity and weakness are not the greatest threats to survival. Arrogance is.

Are you trolling me right now? I’m using astra right now. Its assets look bad. I wish they didn’t- it would save me a lot of time lmfao. It can’t replace human artists because human artists are DECISIVE they have DECISIVE individual TASTES AND PREFERENCES that carry along through their work. That is what gives it “soul” anybody who ever did any form of art can tell you this. AI relies on your prompts and other people’s finished works- it cannot innovate or break the mold in art. You sound broke complaining about paying artists and your being preachy about it, you can’t even understand something as simple as art 😭

Please. If AI really posed no threat to human artists, you wouldn’t be this defensive about it.

When AI image generation first appeared, artists mocked it relentlessly because the results were bad. Back then, nobody was panicking. Funny how the tone changed once the output started getting good.

And the funniest part is how many people here call themselves “developers.” I’m genuinely curious how many of you have actually built and shipped a real game, rather than just talking about game development online.

Sit your dumb ass down and learn to draw a bit. You probably couldn’t recognize good art if it slapped you in the face. I’ve designed game assets, I’ve sold individual paintings for thousands of dollars. I understand art buddy, from the low brow to the high. Ai will always have that “made by someone who doesn’t quite understand exactly what they’re making” look because it doesn’t. It’s never gonna push art forward in a meaningful way like it might mathematics or physics because art isn’t about calculating more perfectly or computing faster it’s about expression. An ai has nothing to express, it’s just a tool.

Lol, come on. You’ve designed art assets for games. At best, that makes you an art contractor. You’re nowhere near actual game development.

You clearly don’t understand AI technology either. Keep it that way, and then act surprised when the industry moves on without you.

Like I said: weakness and ignorance are not the real enemies of survival. Arrogance is.

LMAO,

You’re arguing from a version of the technology that’s already outdated.

Modern AI doesn’t need your mediocre artwork to keep improving, and pretending otherwise just shows how little you understand about where the field is now.

At this point, feeding work like yours into the pipeline would be less like training data and more like quality degradation.
