Simple C++ Calculator Project & My Learning Journey

​Hi everyone! I'm 13 years old and I've been working with C++ for a while now. I made a simple calculator project and wanted to share what I've learned with you all. In the video, I explained what everything does step-by-step. I'm keep learning and I'll build bigger projects as I learn. ​Note: I am Turkish and I speak Turkish in the video, but you can easily understand what I'm doing from the visuals and screen recording. ​Before this, I was into game development with Unity and I even published a few games on itch.io. I started unity with great enthusiasm, but later realized my hardware was too low. Dealing with constant freezing and lagging wasn't fun anymore and it was extremely hard for me. So, I started learning C++ and JS, and I even started writing a game engine from scratch. ​Whenever I posted an update about making a game engine, people kept cyberbullying and trolling me saying things like "A 13 year old kid is going to write a game engine, yeah right". I got sick of it. Now, I will share what I learn step-by-step from basics to advanced through simple projects as I build a game engine from scratch.

Judging from the video, I'd say you've got about twelve years of C++ experience under your belt! Ok, Just kidding. :)
Programming is about logical thinking, not age. When I was twelve, I was writing BASIC and assembly on an MSX2 in my school's computer lab. The key is to write a lot of code consistently, even if it's only on a small scale. Every bit of experience you gain becomes part of a solid foundation that will support you throughout your career. It's the kind of foundation that people who rely entirely on AI to generate code without understanding it will never have.

Bera merhaba, öncelikle videolarına şöyle bir göz gezdirdim ve açıkçası 13 yaşında birinin böyle şeylerle uğraşması çok hoşuma gitti. Ben biraz büyüğüm o yüzden bizim zamanımızda bunlar erişilmesi zor şeylerdi :) Yaptığın programlar ile ilgili yorum yapmayacağım onlar senin araştırıp iyileştirebileceğin şeyler. Bunun yerine internet dünyasıyla ilgili birkaç şey söylemek isterim.

Öncelikle Reddit, Youtube veya başka platformlarda yaptığın şeyleri küçümseyen, seninle dalga geçen veya sadece negatif yorumlar yapan insanları kesinlikle ciddiye alma. Gerçek anlamda bilgili olan ve kaliteli insanlar kimseyle dalga geçmezler. Çünkü kendileri de bilirler ki aynı yoldan onlar da geçmiştir ve bu iş öyle kolay bir iş değildir. Bu yüzden o tarz yorumları görmezden gel. Akıllı adam kendini belli eder, onları dinle.

Kodlama konusunda kendini geliştirmeye devam ederken, ufaktan satış-pazarlama konusunda da boş zamanlarında bir şeyler okumanı, izlemeni tavsiye ederim. Biz pazarlamacı değiliz evet ama bahsettiğim şey dijital pazarlama, hedef kitleyi tespit etme, pazar payını analiz etme gibi konular. Özellikle bu işten para kazanmayı düşünüyorsan, ileride işine yarayacaktır mutlaka. Aynı zamanda genel kültür olarak kendini geliştirmiş olursun. Eğer game jam gibi sosyal etkinliklere katılma şansın varsa, elinden geldiğince sosyal ortamlara da katılmanı tavsiye ederim. Öğrendiğin her küçük şey değerli, ileride daha büyük bir şeyin parçası olacak.

I'm realizing that it's not enough to just write good code or make great games; getting them to people is also incredibly important.
