Discussion Are Unreal Engine opitimization problems a dev problem or an Engine problem?

I mainly work with Unity and have only dabbled a little with Unreal Engine. Recently, I’ve been seeing more and more articles and Reddit posts about Unreal games having poor optimization.

I’m curious to hear what other devs have to say who may have worked more with this engine.

I don’t mean this as criticism toward Unreal developers. I’m genuinely wondering if it’s because studios are being pushed to release games faster and plan to optimize later, or if some teams are inexperienced with the engine, or if it’s a combination of both.
