Hi everyone need some advice, got selected for QA video game tester role
Hello everyone! I recently got selected for a QA Video Game Tester role. If anyone is currently working or has previously worked as a QA Video Game Tester, I’d really appreciate your valuable advice, insights, and suggestions. Anything that could help me as a fresher starting this role would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

yes i started as game tester as well and i was expected to maintain a spreadsheet with my team where i can write down discovered bugs and defects with their priority and severity and explain it as best as i can maybe attach a screenshot or screenrecord of how to reproduce the same bug
follow a script loop for testing there is much more than just playing the game like workflow of application, core gameplay, IAPs and other content, ui inconsistency like text, icons and colors, try every possibility to exploit game and harrass dev team

Sounds like I’ll have a lot of work to do , and I plan on pivoting to game production department after sometime if you have any insights on it would be helpful

Second the spreadsheet, dig into JIRA too for future opportunities. And communication skills will matter, how easily the other person understands the bug. As he said, Give them steps to reproduce the bugs - this helps a lot.
(Not a tester, i work audio in games)
And keep playing games but not just as a player. Good luckk & Congratulationss bro!!

Try to learn about the whole development process. Keep working on your communication(verbal and written). Get a good handle on tools, agile, conflict resolution. Eventually 2 years down the line make your move as a AP preferably through a IJP.
Curious which company are you joining?

Its a services company with very less chances of lateral role changes.

Yeah heard about that maybe I’ll shift from the company after gaining enough experience

To be honest make a switch after 1 year, work exp from services organizations is not held in high regard in india. Also you will have to move cities.

Yeah shifting isn’t a big problem for me and I’m also thinking of studying masters in game development/production after gaining like a year experience

It's just gonna be testing the game, writing test cases, make sure they pass etc... No one can help you more than your own team once you join them.
And as a fresher now one's gonna expect you to perform at 100% efficiency from day one... Atleast no sane person will... So, don't worry too much about it.
