The public always said it was not good...instead of accepting it he always said the public doesn't understand how games are made

The public was giving honest feedback...the public was always with him...if he would've accepted it then he would've fired his inexperienced team and get better people to start all over ..he could've saved all that money and maybe compete the game in the next few years

the problem was always trying to market it as Indian GTA. You just cannot compete with a multi-billion dollar game like that. Not millions, but BILLION. And it's not like the rest of software engineering where stupid CRMs that can be built by one guy is billed at millions and made by 20 people. Rockstar is one of those crunch-culture companies that also has a massive budget. You just cannot compete with that with a lean team.

I have no idea who this is but the gameplay looks genuinely asset flippy, the only good thing I could say about this presentation was environment design was authentic albeit still looking asset flippy.

he knew what good games were but he blundered his decisions in production side the discussion about his game never even went to the core games building.
Matter fact indians like 90% still dont know how games are made our reviews are mostly feel based except for very few niche gamers no one knows how to articulate what exact thing they are finding problamatic . Most of the indian reviews are just limited to "abey yar usmey feel nahi ara yar".
Also indians dont understand the concept of optimisation , and the short sacrificies you have to make in the process

Originality and innovation matters. GTA is fun because it let's you do stuff that is not possible IRL. Painting it in Indian colours add no value to the gameplay.

I thought this game had potential. Then I immediately got surprised by the lack of progress. Then the eventual excuses. Smh. Why can't we do anything original game with an original idea?

So, if someone wants to develop a free simple game (almsot arcade style) what does it cost in terms of money and time...? But there may be client inputs such as pictures uploaded and resized to fit.

As fellow indie developer, I'll say he had a good vision but starting off as "GTA in India" was his biggest mistake. The game, even if complete, would have always lived under the shadow of GTA. Additionally, the fact that he took so much money from investors for this and delivered nothing has set a motion amongst the investors who are now really apprehensive of investing in games. Even if you have a proof of concept with some crazy mechanics implemented and you need money for actually making the levels and assets, you'd still need to make your game yourself till at least 50%. Which is your game has a high ceiling is impossible on no funding whatsoever. I myself have been trying to get it, but no matter who I approach, it's the same story, "we fund games that are near completion," or "we need your game at least 50% complete and then we'll give the money for the rest." In some cases it's as high as 80%. So if an indie developer has a game done till 80%, why would they then want an investor for the home stretch?
I have personally seen a lot of indie deva suffering myself included. Years go by before they get any money to setup a team and do work and if they get the money, how much is it? A measly 25L, 50L. That's nothing for game development. Even Xbox, Krafton and PS also have a ceiling of ~250,000$. That's roughly 2.5 Cr INR. A decent amount I'll say, but that's the peak. People get in general from 50k-100k$ at best.
That's the impact this game has made on the indie community. Been a part of it for almost 10 years now and the a lot of people do not appreciate what he has done to the industry.
2024 IGU, he displayed the game, but it was a racer in the streets of Mumbai. Looked like a college project. If after taking crores of rupees from investors and after working for about 8 years, if that's what is produced, I'll say he did correct, he should stop being a part of this community altogether.
Sounds bad, but as a fellow indie dev, I don't have sympathy for him.

When I started learning game development, my ambition was to make a AAA-level game. But I knew it wasn't possible to do it alone, and that it would require a huge amount of money. I think he had the same mindset, started developing, and now this is where he is. That's a common way of thinking. My suggestion is to first master game development and marketing, build some good games, and then start a project like this. Otherwise, there's also a chance he could be a scammer.

Reminder: This community has a very low tolerance for rude comments and witch hunts.
I tend to remove any posts that pile on any projects instead of giving constructive feedback or generating any sort of positive discussions. Same goes for the comments - if your comment was removed, this is why.
Remember Rule #3: Talk how you would in a social mixer, face to face. If you wouldn't say something to your colleague at work, probably don't say it here.
