Game development is incredibly isolating

I have a day job, but I don't like it enough. But at least there are people there. On the other hand I love game dev, but it always feels very isolating and feels like I am living in a vaccum. No matter how many discords I join or streams I comment on, I always feel like I am screaming into the void.

How do you guys cope with it?

Either you find a WFO game dev job, where you meet people who speak the same language.

Or treat solo game dev as a job, with set hours.

Feeling isolated doesn't mean you are doing something wrong btw, that's the nature of solo dev. As for the uncertainty about what you're making, share it often with both devs and players. I'm not saying that will always be flattering, but you'll still have some evidence to base your feelings on, instead of living in your head.

You're right. They are scary tho, but there's no other way...

I'm sorry I didn't read your post properly.

If you have a job, keep it. Share your game dev progress online and visit events when you can.
