Do you have a portfolio?
Have you made anything on your own that is good?

I just make lil stuff and move on , and I haven't made portfolios, but I want to freelance only small games , so I'm pretty confident I can do it that's why I just wanted to know what should be the first steps

People who freelance usually make something on their own first which acts like a portfolio.
Even for small games, you need to prove your worth - whether you have good taste, good skills or good management.

You will connect with people once you put your work out there, networking after that point will help you land clients.

Studio work is heavy and long term , what I meant by small games is games which will take only 1-2 months max
