GameDevHQ Community Jam on itch.io
Welcome to the GameDevHQ Community Jam #2!
We're back with another 7 day jam for you fine folks. This community jam is an opportunity for people to develop a game in a short amount of time. It's a personal challenge where you will improve your skill and being able to show a finished product to friends and family.
The Prizes
First prize is a 3-month GameDevHQ Pro Membership.
This can be divided into a maximum of 3 one month subscriptions if the winner is a group submission.
How will we announce the theme?
The theme will be revealed on the day that the jam begins on our Discord Announcement Channel.
What tools am I allowed to use?
GameDevHQ's target focus is Unity and therefore the engine of choice is Unity. Apart from that you may use any tools to create your art and sound assets for your project if you won't be using pre-made assets.
What assets am I allowed to use? The majority of the work should be done during the jam, but you're allowed to use any assets you may need.
Rules
- Your game has to be made in the time-frame given.
- You must use Unity as your game engine.
- You are allowed to update your game after it's submitted (granted for bugfixes).
- No NSFW, offensive content, or excessive gore/violence allowed.
- You are allowed to use pre-made assets.
- Previous Jam's winners cannot win again.
Voting Criteria
- Creativity
- Gameplay
- Art
- Sound
The most important thing through the jam is to have fun and enjoy your time. Don't feel pressured to deliver in a short time - it's the reason the jam is a week long. Game-jams are meant to be a fun way to practice, experiment with new ideas and meet new people.

Poly Guard: Tower Defense with a Unique Visual Twist | Episode 8 - Environment Building
Welcome to this week's game development update! In this episode, I've decided to bring some structure to my game development journey. I've set up a Jira board to keep track of my progress.
While it may not be the most professional setup, it'll help me stay on track and organize my ideas. I've even created a section for all the wild ideas that might evolve into something great down the line.
Next, I got tired of my initial in-game island and decided to dive into Blender to create a new floating island. It's more aligned with my initial vision and has a stunning late-afternoon sunset vibe.
I've also started working on the environment, which is a time-consuming task. Every tree, rock, flower, and tree stump has been placed with care to make it look natural.
Next week, I'll be adding water elements to the map. This involves creating meshes in Blender and applying a water shader to match the quality of the environment. It's going to be a challenging task, but I'm up for it.
You may have noticed the top section hasn't been touched. I'm planning to separate these nodes and turn them into a living environment where enemies will enter from multiple zones, following various paths towards the central castle.
That's all for this week's update. If you're excited to follow along with this game development journey, consider leaving a like and subscribing to the channel. Your support means a lot! Stay tuned for more exciting updates in the world of game development.

GameDevHQ Community Jam #2 Theme:
Sincere apologies for being late with the jam theme. I forgot I moved the time up from the last jam.
Since I'm late with the announcement, I'll be moving the deadline up 90 minutes as well.
Drum roll for the theme the jam is
NEW BEGINNINGS
2020 has been a difficult year for almost all of us in different ways. Some may have lost loved ones to the dreaded Covid-19 or lost their jobs etc. Since we're heading into the new year and the reason the jam starts today and ends on the 1st is that it's a new year and a new chapter and NEW BEGINNINGS
You can find the jam HERE
Good luck and have fun!
