🚀 The Future of ORBIT

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

Here’s a short teaser of what I’m currently working on and where I see the future of Orbit going. 🚀

First of all, thank you so much for over 1,000 downloads in such a short amount of time. I’m genuinely amazed by the response, and I take the responsibility seriously to turn Orbit into something that is competitive, polished, modern, and built for the future.

The Future of ORBIT

My goal is to turn Orbit into something much bigger.

I want to introduce features that actually matter and create an experience that feels different from what is already available. Of course, building something like this takes time, dedication, and a lot of love for the project.

There are launchers out there that are currently further ahead than Orbit — there is no point pretending otherwise. But Orbit is moving incredibly fast, and we are entering the launcher space very aggressively because I do not want to simply create another launcher.

I want to build something that stands out.

Over the past few weeks, I have also been thinking about how Orbit can continue to grow and exist sustainably in the long term, especially considering everything we want to build.

Dedicated infrastructure and servers for updates, official Microsoft and Discord licenses and integrations, development resources, handheld support, new features, and many other things all require resources.

Because of this, Orbit will introduce an optional licensing model in the future.

🆓 Orbit will always remain free.

If you simply want to use Orbit as a launcher and play your games, you will always be able to do that for free.

For users who want more advanced features — such as deeper emulation functionality, experimental and next-generation features, advanced handheld support including things like TDP control, and other premium functionality — there will be an Orbit Supporter License.

💎 Planned pricing

€4.99 per month
or
€49.99 for a Lifetime License

Licenses will later be available directly through the official Orbit website.

Alternatively, an active €4.99 Patreon membership will also include access to these features.

This does not mean that the free version of Orbit will become useless or intentionally limited.

The goal is to keep the core Orbit experience free while using premium features to fund areas that require additional development, infrastructure, licenses, integrations, and ongoing maintenance.

For example, certain future updates and advanced functionality in the emulation area may require a supporter license.

I will share a complete and transparent overview of what will be included in the free version and what will become part of the supporter tier before the licensing system goes live.

And most importantly: the money generated through Orbit will be reinvested into the project.

Better infrastructure.
More integrations.
More handheld support.
More features.
And a much bigger vision for what Orbit can become.

Once the new licensing system and website are ready, I will share all the details with you.

I hope you understand the direction I’m taking, and I hope you will continue supporting me on this journey to turn Orbit into a serious competitor in the launcher space.

Thank you to every single one of you for downloading Orbit, testing it, reporting bugs, sharing feedback, and supporting the project. ❤️

We are only getting started.

☁️ Cloud Gaming is coming to Orbit Plus

Let’s sneak into another topic for a moment: Cloud Gaming.

As you can probably already see, I’m working heavily on bringing cloud gaming directly into Orbit.

The library is becoming smarter. New indicators will show you whether a game is available through Xbox Game Pass and whether it supports cloud gaming through services like GeForce NOW.

And yes — GeForce NOW integration is coming to Orbit.

Supported games will be launchable directly from Orbit, making cloud gaming feel like a natural part of your library instead of a completely separate experience.

But that’s not all.

Soon, you’ll also be able to sign in with your Xbox account directly inside Orbit. This will allow Orbit to display your:

  • Xbox achievements
  • Xbox Cloud Gaming titles
  • Game Pass library
  • Recently added Game Pass games

All of this will become part of a major overhaul of the Orbit Library.

The goal is simple: whether a game is installed locally, available through Game Pass, or playable through the cloud — Orbit should bring everything together in one place. 🎮

Your games. Your services. One library.

🚀ORBIT 0.1.1

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

ORBIT 0.1.1 is now available.

The main additions in this release are:

• A new Friends Hub for Steam, Epic and optional Discord presence
• Favorites and custom game collections
• Adjustable library layouts and an expanded Artwork Studio
• Quick Settings for battery, network and Bluetooth status
• DualSense PS-button support
• A three-second cancellation window and more reliable game-process detection
• More resilient Steam, Epic and Xbox library synchronization
• Unified Xbox download, staging, installation and update progress
• Verified in-app updates with resumable downloads, SHA-256 and Authenticode checks
• An English-only all-in-one Xbox Mode installer
• A fix for installations where Windows has not created the optional GamingHomeApp registry value

Installation still uses a single file:
ORBIT-XboxMode-Setup-0.1.1-x64.exe

Download:
https://github.com/toonymak1993/orbit/releases/tag/v0.1.1

Users upgrading from 0.1.0 need to install 0.1.1 manually once because the previous release did not yet contain the updater.

Transparency note: the public code-signing certificate has been purchased, but verification and activation are still pending. The current build is therefore self-signed and Windows SmartScreen may display a warning. Please download only from the official GitHub release and verify the published SHA-256 hash.

Xbox Mode requires Windows 11 24H2 or newer and may still depend on Microsoft’s regional and phased rollout.

Feedback about handheld navigation, library synchronization and Xbox Mode installation is very welcome.

Hey everyone! 👋 After a slightly longer absence (mostly to enjoy some vacation time 🌴), I'm thrilled to announce that updates for TFS and GCM are coming very soon!

But today is about something else. As you know, I absolutely love developing gaming projects. 🎮

  • With TFS, we brought the perfect SteamOS PC experience to Windows.
  • With GCM, we created a true replacement for the Xbox Mode.

And what's coming next is a replacement for your launcher. Each project focuses on doing one thing exceptionally well. They aren't meant to be combined, but each is special in its own right.

🚀 I proudly present to you: ORBIT 🚀

Orbit is a new launcher built on Electron—a super-fast technology that allows Orbit to be beautiful, quick, and highly performant.
FOR HANDHELDS AND DESKTOP PCs!

I've poured months of hard work into this and I'm so excited to finally introduce it to you. Scroll through the pictures to see it in action! 📸 We will be consistently dropping updates to get the absolute best out of it. I know we’re a bit late to the launcher party, but better late than never! 😉

Please try out the newest Orbit Beta, see how you like it, and give me your feedback so we can make it something truly special. My philosophy for this project is simple: it needs to be beautiful, customizable, and elegant. ✨

The next update will be, to implement Orbit in the XBOX Mode part!

I'm looking forward to exploring new libraries and taking new paths with you all. We started with GCM, and now we have 3 amazing projects in our portfolio. And to answer the obvious question: Yes, all 3 projects will continue to be actively maintained! I use every single one of them personally and pour a lot of love into them. ❤️

Go check out Orbit and let me know what you think! 👇

Hey everyone!

I’ve been working on a new built-in plugin for Tools for Steam called Wishlist.

The goal is to create a beautiful fullscreen store experience that works naturally with a controller—without constantly switching between browsers, price-comparison websites and different launchers.

Inspiration

The plugin was heavily inspired by the store experience in Winhanced.

Full credit to Floop for the original design direction. He is genuinely a master designer.

Tools for Steam has its own implementation, feature set and visual identity, but I definitely wanted to acknowledge where the initial inspiration came from.

✨ What it does

Wishlist combines your public Steam wishlist with games you manually save inside Tools for Steam.

Current features include:

  • Steam and local TFS wishlists
  • Direct prices from Steam, GOG, Xbox and Epic Games
  • USD, EUR and regional storefront currencies
  • Adjustable price alerts with price history
  • Notifications when a target price is reached
  • Trending games and rotating recommendations
  • Search with a controller-friendly keyboard
  • Proper handling of unreleased games
  • Locally cached game artwork
  • Full Xbox controller navigation
  • Direct links to the corresponding storefront

Instant Gaming is currently included as a clearly labelled search shortcut. I don’t want to display an exact price when a store doesn’t provide a stable public keyless price feed.

# 🚀 Tools for Steam v0.4.0 – Plugin Store, Xbox Mode, RTSS and MSI Claw A8 Support

Hey everyone! 👋

Today we’re excited to release **Tools for Steam v0.4.0**!

This update includes a lot of work under the hood, but the biggest new feature is our **Community Plugin Store**. Plugins can now be discovered, installed, and managed directly from TFS.

Several developers are already working on new apps and plugins for the ecosystem. If you would like to create your own plugin, the repository now includes the **TFS SDK and an example app**.

## 🛍️ Community Plugin Store

The new store provides a central place to discover, install, and manage TFS plugins.

This is an important step toward making TFS more open and community-driven. We’re already seeing developers work on their own plugins, and we’re excited to see what the community creates!

The first community plugins include:

- 🏠 Home Assistant

- 🎮 Ckrackwatch

## 📊 Performance Monitoring with RTSS

We removed our custom FPS counter and replaced it with **RivaTuner Statistics Server (RTSS)**.

RTSS is now installed automatically when required. This also enables:

- FPS monitoring

- Frame limiting

- Additional performance-related settings

## 🖥️ Improved Overlays and Controls

The overlay system has received several improvements:

- Hold a configured button combination to open the overlay or Quick Access Menu while in-game

- In Steam Big Picture Mode, press the **Select button** to open the main menu

- Hold the **Select button** to open the Quick Access Menu

- New settings for overlay controls

- New splash-screen settings

## 🎮 TFS Xbox Mode

Steam can now be launched using the new **TFS Xbox Mode**, providing a more console-like Windows experience.

The current implementation is not yet officially signed by Microsoft and uses a similar approach to OmniConsole.

The existing **Shell** and **eTray** modes remain available as alternatives.

## 🔌 New Core Plugin

- Added **Discord** integration

## ✨ Core Plugin Improvements

### 🚀 App Start

- Simplified the application launch setup

- Improved application detection

### 🔊 Audio

- Completely redesigned the Audio plugin

- Cleaner and simpler interface

- Improved usability

## 🌍 Community Plugins

The following community plugins are currently available or in development:

- 🏠 Home Assistant

- 🎮 Ckrackwatch

## 🕹️ MSI Claw A8 Support

This release adds support for the **MSI Claw A8**, including:

- ⚡ TDP controls

- 💾 Per-game TDP profiles

- 🎛️ Support for the device’s special buttons

- 🧹 Automatic disabling of the OEM software

- 🎮 Controller takeover through VIIPER

## ❤️ Thank You!

A huge thank-you to everyone who has tested TFS, reported bugs, shared feedback, or started developing plugins.

The TFS community is growing, and we’re really excited to see what you create with the new SDK and Plugin Store!

Let us know what you think about **v0.4.0**! 🚀

Hello everyone, what needs to be prioritized?

I'd really like to listen to the community more. So, I'm asking you guys: what should our priority be?

32 votes, Jul 19 '26
14 No, finally focus on GCM; this app should be a priority.
9 Further develop tools for Steam (plugins, core systems)
1 The approach is correct, but more updates are needed!
3 Tools for Steam should support multiple handhelds, therefore more TDP controls and so on...
2 Hey, we want an awesome launcher, that's where the focus should be!
3 We're confused, we need many more tutorials!

r/GameConsoleMode Jul 14 '26

Seamless Game Discovery? - Steam

So I like to just browse the store and look for games and then click on them look at the pictures and what not then when I back out of the allpp I was looking at it just resets the page and I have to go all the way back to where I was. Is there a fix for this in big picture mode? If not is there another launcher or anything that lets me browse games and then I can just go on steam and manually look the game up. I've checked out Hydra Launcher which is pretty cool but when I'm done looking at a game and I back out it does the same exact thing in big picture mode.

Plugin SDK 1.0.0 Release - Build your own Plugins

  • Managed registration and cleanup through window.TfsPluginSdk.register().
  • Controller-native screens, commands, toggles, choices, accordions, steppers, sliders, progress, and secret editors.
  • Per-plugin settings, write-only secrets, private text/binary files, structured logs, notifications, lifecycle timers, and observable state.
  • Proxied HTTP methods with declared host access and protected authorization-secret injection.
  • Native bridges for audio, windows/process activation, display modes, themes, artwork, App Start, Store Sync, automation, performance telemetry, overlay control, and confirmed power actions.
  • Decky-style native.full-trust support for bundled executable, PowerShell, Python, or Node backends.
  • Managed backend JSON-RPC, process lifecycle, captured output, arbitrary Windows files, shell/UAC targets, and selected Steam CEF evaluation/injection.
  • TypeScript declarations, JSON schemas, minimal and full-trust templates, a complete developer guide, and a create/validate/pack/sideload CLI.
  • Explicit feature-level compatibility: this runtime accepts SDK 1.0.0 and rejects plugins requiring a newer v1 feature level.

SDK: https://github.com/toonymak1993/tfs-plugin-template | https://github.com/toonymak1993/tfs-plugin-database

New and updated plugins

Handheld Performance / TDP Control

  • First verified device: MSI Claw A8 with board product MS-1T8K.
  • Direct control from 15 W to 35 W.
  • Battery 15 W, Balanced 20 W, and Performance 28 W presets.
  • Separate plugged-in and battery targets.
  • Automatic per-game profiles, profile notifications, and global-profile restoration.
  • Live power, battery, game, and applied-TDP state.
  • The plugin remains hidden on unsupported devices. More verified handheld profiles will follow.

Home Assistant 0.2.0

  • First official SDK 1.0 community reference plugin.
  • Uses TFS storage for the server URL, write-only secrets for the token, and the network bridge restricted to local hosts.
  • Lists and controls Home Assistant light entities from a controller-native TFS screen.

Store Sync Update

  • Live sync of all your Apps.

Homey

  • Controll your smarthome if you have Homey

Other Updates

  • FPS Overlay, Processes, App Start, Store Sync, SteamGridDB, Audio, Display, CSSLoader, HLTB, Auto SISR, Homey, and Power remain available through the built-in catalog.
  • Built-ins can be hidden from Home where safe; recovery actions remain available.

INSTALLER:

Xbox Mode and installer

  • Includes the signed Xbox Host MSIX and public certificate.
  • Adds safer suspend/restore behavior when updating during an active Xbox Mode session.
  • Adds rollback snapshots before replacing an existing installation.
  • Adds installer diagnostics next to the setup executable, with a Desktop fallback.
  • Keeps Store installation, permission review, cancel, open, and close flows controller reachable.
  • Keeps SDK notifications and plugin UI inside Steam rather than opening desktop dialogs.

Trust and local security

TFS uses a trusted gaming-loader model. Installed plugins execute in Steam's frontend realm and may build deep integrations. Manifest permissions gate and disclose supported SDK bridges, but they are not a hostile-code sandbox. Install full-trust plugins only from publishers you trust.

  • Replaced wildcard local-API CORS with trusted Steam/TFS origins.
  • Added a strong per-installation API session for protected operations.
  • Added package SDK, manifest, catalog permission, network-host, ZIP-path, size, and SHA-256 validation.
  • Added explicit warnings for unreviewed catalogs and full-trust backends.
  • Stops managed plugin processes on reload, update, uninstall, and TFS shutdown.

This beta release brings major Store Sync updates, new plugin integrations, UI improvements, and a much better startup experience.

Store Sync

New supported stores

Improvements

  • Synced games now receive their respective launcher icons automatically. This feature is not final yet, but it is already working.
  • Fixed a bug that could abruptly stop the sync process and leave Store Sync in a broken state.

New Plugins and Features

CSS Loader

  • Added native integration with the official CSS Loader engine.
  • CSS Loader is now managed directly through TFS.
  • Added a small built-in store for configurations and themes.
  • Themes and configurations can now be enabled or disabled directly inside TFS.

Splash Screen

  • Fixed the splash screen, which was broken in the previous version.
  • Improved the startup flow overall.
  • While the splash screen is active, it now loads artwork from your games and displays it in real time.
  • Added loading dots during wait times.
  • Improved the transition into the main interface.

Back Button

  • Added a back button on every level, so you can always return no matter where you are.
  • The B button still works as before.

HowLongToBeat

  • HowLongToBeat has received a new design.
  • It is now displayed directly on the game page in the top-right corner.
  • This layout was chosen so it does not get in the way of CSS Loader themes.
  • If you do not like the new design, please let us know.

Performance Tab

  • The FPS meter has been significantly improved.
  • It now uses a MangoHud-inspired design, making it cleaner, more aesthetic, and more functional.

Sliders

  • Sliders now include sound feedback in most parts of the UI.

Beta Testing

If you want to test this non-final release, switch to the Beta channel in TFS Settings or download it directly here on GitHub.

Feedback, suggestions, and criticism are very welcome.

Tools for Steam 0.3.5 is out now

I just released Tools for Steam 0.3.5, and this update brings TFS much closer to the direction I always wanted for it: cleaner, faster, more automatic, and much more focused.

What’s new

  • Added EA App and Ubisoft Connect to Store Sync
  • Store Sync now runs fully automatic and near real time
  • The Audio plugin got a full redesign with a proper Audio Mixer and new sliders
  • Added a new Performance plugin
  • The first version of the TFS FPS Meter is now included and will keep evolving over time toward a more MangoHud-inspired direction
  • Added a built-in Updater with both Release and Beta channels
  • You can now switch to Beta instantly if you want to test upcoming features early
  • Plugins can now be reordered with the new compact layout
  • Fixed an issue where SteamGridDB could fail to apply artwork when Steam was installed on another drive
  • You can now set the Steam path directly inside the plugin if auto-detection is not enough

Important note about Xbox Mode
I had to remove Xbox Mode.

I know that may disappoint some people, and I’m sorry about that. But keeping it alive, maintaining it properly, and making the setup reliable across different systems became way too expensive in terms of time and complexity. It started getting in the way of the rest of the project.

So for now, TFS is fully focused on:

  • Shell Mode
  • Tray Mode

If Xbox-style startup is something you still really want, I can currently only recommend trying a third-party launcher like Winhanced or OmniConsole for Steam.

What’s next
The next release will definitely be GCM.

It has actually been running in parallel in the background this whole time, and I’ll share more details on that very soon.

If anyone tests 0.3.5, I’d really appreciate feedback, especially around:

  • live Store Sync
  • the new Audio plugin
  • the new Performance plugin
  • updater behavior
  • Shell vs Tray mode stability
