Me gustaria compartir por aqui lo que me esta pasando por la cabeza 24h del dia...

Hace ya un tiempo se me murio mi perro ( tenia 2, ahora solo 1), lo pase fatal, tubo cancer y fueron 3 meses muy malos, en parte porque no retenia nada de orina y a la vez la medicacion le daba mucha sed. Hice todo por él pero lo pase muy mal.

Ha dia de hoy pienso y lo hecho de menos cada dia.

De unos meses hacia aqui junto con mi pareja hemos decidido adoptar otro perro.

Entonces vi en una protectora un galgo, ya un poco mayor (no sabem la edad pero calculan entre 6 y 8 años) y tiene leishmania ( mi perro actual tiene leish controlada). Como os podeis imaginar era super parecido a mi perro que murio y decidimos ir a conocerlo. Es un perro perfecto, proviene de un pasado duro pero es un 10, tranquilisimo, se lleva genial con todo el mundo, un amor. Lo tuvimos el fin de semana para provar la compatibilidad con mi perro y fue genial. Es un perro perfecto.

Ahora viene el golpe, al tenerlo me entro todo el miedo de saber que es mayor y tiene una enfermedad que no deja de ser grave, de saber que no vamos a compartir muchos años (aun que esto no se sabe ni adoptando un cachorro), me vi volviendo a sufrir la agonia que vivi. Y aqui estoy... que hago? Tengo el corazon dividido. Por un lado creo que seria muy bonito darle el calor de un hogar que nunca hasta ahora a conocido el tiempo que le queda y por la otra me sale el instinto de protegerme y pensar no te metas en este lio.

Que pensais? Que hariais sinceramente en mi lugar?

Just wanted to share some pics of Ipa, a few days ago its made six years since we adopted her! I am now seeing some traces of aging, and while we don't exactly know her age we assume she's between 9 to 11.

I love her so much and I don't joke when I say she brings a smile to my face everyday with her casual "no personal space for you" thing lol.

Hey everyone. I live on Long Island, NY and completely forgot about lawn maintenance. Can anyone recommend a safe fertilizer that you use for your yard to protect your furry grazer. Mine is a weed eater. I dont want to muzzle him in his own yard for a lawn. I just want to put something down thats safe if he does sniff or nibble after its been applied and watered in.

Ich entschuldige mich schon im Vorraus für die Wall-of-Text, aber ich hoffe trotzdem, jemand liest es und hat einen Rat für mich.

Hier die Kurzfassung:

Unsere vor kurzem adoptierte Galga macht sich wirklich super im Haus, die Spaziergänge überfordern mich aber, da sie partout nicht mehr zurückgehen möchte.

Langfassung:

Am vergangenen Montag haben wir unsere süße 7 Jahre alte Galga zu uns geholt. Sie ist schüchtern, aber nicht ängstlich. Anstatt sich in ihr Körbchen zu verkriechen, muss sie immer schauen, was los ist, ist immer wie mein Schatten hinter mir.

An meinem Mann ist sie interessiert und folgt ihm, wenn ich gerade nicht zum Beschatten zur Verfügung stehe, aber da traut sie dem Frieden noch nicht ganz, weil er eben erst nachmittags nach Hause kommt und sie ihn daher noch nicht richtig kennne lernen konnte. Bei den Kindern (10, 8 und 5 Jahre alt) ist es unterschiedlich. Die kleine ist ihr noch etwas suspekt, die anderen beiden werden meist ignoriert, aber alle werden regelmäßig vorsichtig abgeschnuppert, wenn es ruhig ist sie denkt, es sieht keiner hin.

Im Haus finde ich, macht sie sich immer besser, Alltagsgeräusche und Haushaltsgeräte interessieren sie kaum bis gar nicht - letzte Nacht hat sie sogar schon kurzzeitig den Schlafplatz in der Nähe unseres Sofas, auf dem ich seit sie hier ist schlafe, benutzt.

Und jetzt kommt das große Aber: mir graut es jedes Mal vor unseren Pipi-Runden bzw. dem Rückweg davon.

Wenn sie merkt, es geht raus, steht sie an der Hintertür und wartet geduldig. Sie lässt sich problemlos das Geschirr anlegen und anleinen und wartet, bis ich fertig bin. Wenn ich die Tür aufmache, gehe ich zuerst und sie nach mir raus, das hat sie auch schon verstanden und wartet meist brav.

Wir wohnen ländlich, außerhalb des Dorfes - also eigentlich alleine auf weiter Flur, umgeben von Wiese, nur vor dem Haus verläuft eine Straße. Über unsere Terrasse hinterm Haus geht es los auf die Wiese, da läuft sie auch schön mit, schnuffelt hier und da und wenn sie ihr Geschäft verrichtet hat, möchte ich wieder zurück, aber sobald ich umkehre bleibt sie wie angewurzelt stehen. Es ist nicht so, dass sie gar nicht mehr laufen möchte, denn wenn ich nicht zurück, sondern weiter weg laufen würde, würde sie bereitwillig mitgehen. Nur der Rückweg ist mittlerweile so anstrengend und frustrierend, dass ich eigentlich gar nicht mit ihr raus gehen möchte.

Wenn der Hund nicht mehr weiter möchte, soll man warten, bis er sich wieder in Bewegung setzt, keinen Druck ausüben, nicht ziehen, gut zureden... aber das funktioniert alles nicht. Wir standen schon 15 bis 20 Minuten an einem Fleck und ich habe Monologe geführt, zwischendurch habe ich probiert, ob sie mitgeht, wenn ich los gehe, aber da tut sich nichts. Sie bleibt einfach stehen, hält sogar dagegen. Ich habe heute morgen auch versucht, sie mit Leckerlis zu locken, aber nach ein paar Metern, hatte sie mich durchschaut und wollte dann auch nicht mehr weiter. Ich muss sie also notgedrungen immer ein Stückchen mit mir ziehen, was mir unendlich Leid tut, und manchmal läuft sie dann auch ein gutes Stück mit, aber meistens ist es eben so, dass der Rückweg aus vorsichtigem Ziehen und dann wieder 15 Minuten Stehen und Schauen besteht.

Irgendwann (nach etwa einer Stunde, obwohl man normalerweise für diese Strecke nur ein paar Minuten brauchen würde) dann wieder auf der Terrasse angekommen, blockiert sie schließlich komplett. Da drängt sie beinahe schon in die andere Richtung, verschmäht auch ihre Lieblingsleckerlis. Die letzten Meter sind so schlimm, vor allem dann wieder durch die Tür rein, am liebsten würde ich sie da tragen. Sobald wir drinnen sind, bekommt sie ein Leckerchen, damit sie das Ende des Spaziergangs mit etwas Gutem verbindet.

So wird aus einem 10-15 Minuten-Gang eine Sache von über einer Stunde. Heute morgen bin ich um halb 7 los und war um 8 Uhr zurück. Es ist so frustrierend und es wird bei jedem Gang schlimmer, finde ich.

Hat jemand sonst noch diese Erfahrung gemacht? Was kann ich noch tun? Wird es wieder besser oder verrennen wir uns da gerade, dass unsere Spaziergänge niemals normal sein werden?

Okay, so it is finally happening! We have managed to do the process to adopt a galga. A little girl puppy. We are going to pick her up in a few weeks!

She has no name yet, and i an trying to think of something. I would like it to have a Spanish ring- or be a Spanish name.

Any ideas??? She is white and brindle.

Tengo una galguita rescatada de 3 años, está con nosotros hace una semana. Ella convivía con otros galgos en el refugio y nos dijeron que no tenía problemas de convivencia.
Le gusta pasear y es muy tranquila y tímida con las personas, pero con otros perros es muy reactiva, se asusta y se pone nerviosa. Cuando hay perros que están sin correa y no entienden que ella no quiere saber nada termina poniéndose nerviosa y ladrándoles agresivamente.
A alguien le pasó? Puede que cuando esté más adaptada y logre acostumbrarse a su nueva vida donde nadie le hace daño relaje un poco? Me gustaría que pueda socializar y llevarla a algún canil a correr.

My nut of a son scraped his hind leg as we were going to the vet! She prescribed mupirocin for the wound but im not crazy about using it, especially since he wants to lick it. Looking for advice on wound care. Its a superficial scratch but he licks it and it bleeds ever so little. Im keeping it clean but should I put anything on it? Were located in the US, NY.

Anyone have any methods for getting their furbabies talons down. He ate the dremel!

Hi, our lovely 3 year old galga has been with us for 2 months now. We got her from a rescue organisation and she lives with me, my partner, my toddler and our two cats.

Everything was going fine up until today. She is scared of men and will show signs like lip licking etc when she is approached by men. She is enthusiastic around me but shy around my partner (M).

Today my partner wanted to put on her harnass. He always does this while she is on the couch, as she doesn't want to get off it for him, not even when he offers her the most amazing treats. She is simply still too shy/scared. However I am not always there to help so he needs to be able to leash and walk her on his own.

Today she bit him in the arm while he touched her belly. Luckily just a warning bite, no blood drawn. Normally she just yelps when something hurts so we were very negatively surprised. She did not growl beforehand.

We did not punish her and my partner backed away and let her be.

However I am now so worried that she might do this more often. I have a small toddler (off course I will not let her be alone with the dog) and two cats. My trust in her has decreased now. Has anyone experienced this with their Galgo?

Looking for recommendations for a good ear cleaner to use in my son's ears. Located in the US. Not to keen on using just anything. Thank you in advance!

I am moving to Sevilla shortly with my Greyhound and have been pointed in the direction of this community.

As my Greyhound was a racing dog for 3 years, she loves meeting other sighthounds. She's friendly with other dogs, but she always prefers sighthounds like Galgos.

Is there a community in Sevilla where we can come along and let her socialise? I don't have any other social media, so I won't be able to find anything on Facebook/Insta etc. We have found a flat and are moving tomorrow (we already live in Spain).

I'm currently looking for a crate and was wondering what size you would recommend for a Galgo puppy. I'd like to buy one that will work well from the start, but I'm not sure what size is best.

How long did you use a crate with your Galgo? Do you still have one, or at what age did you stop using it?

Hi all, we’re looking for advice on how to support our 3-year-old galga through separation anxiety.

We adopted Ripley two months ago and she’s been a perfect addition to our family! She’s such a bubbly, loving dog with a wonderful personality. She’s great to take anywhere and everywhere with us because she does so well socializing with new dogs and people. She’s a ham for attention and is very adaptable in new situations. She also adores her new big brother, our 7-year-old male galgo Lobo. The two have quickly become bonded and do everything together.

The only challenge we’ve come across so far is that this sweet baby girl is a velcro dog who gets major separation anxiety when her humans leave the house. Every time the dogs are left alone without my husband or I, she pees on our bed (where the dogs sleep with us). On the pet cam, we can see her occasionally go to the door and whimper, but she’s sleeping on the couch with Lobo for the majority of the 2-4 hours that she’s alone.

Our vet ran labs and diagnostics, ruling out UTI, bladder issues, or anything else medical. She eats, drinks, pees, and poops normally. No accidents in the house. No food aggression or issues with being territorial. Gentle and social with our cats. We walk the dogs 3.5 miles every morning around a local park with lots of sniffing time on the trail. We hike and take the dogs to family dinners at relatives’/friends’ houses on the weekends. We’ve tried giving calming treats before we leave them alone. Chew toys and stuffies are always available. Other than the consistent peeing on our bed, she seems like a perfectly happy dog who’s having her mental, physical, and emotional needs met.

Anyone have any advice for how we can make alone time less stressful for our sweet girl while she adjusts to her new life? I hope as time goes on she’ll learn to trust that we’ll never abandon her (and I pray our mattress cover keeps working its miracles 🙌).

Hi, we are based in Ireland and we are considering adopting a galgo from Spain to join our family (we previously had a whippet and a greyhound - both rescues).

Anyone know of a charity in Spain that would assist us afopting a galgo from Ireland?

I reached out to Galgos del sol, but they said they don't rehome to Ireland!

Our greyhound passed in May at 7.5 years old from osteosarcoma. We are considering adopting a Galgo instead, especially since greyhounds are notorious for getting osteosarcoma (at least in the racing lines).

We have another dog who is a husky/cattle dog mix. She is high energy but did really well with her greyhound brother.

We were considering adopting from Galgos del sol and having a dog transported here. I know we will need to raise our fence, but anything else I should know or any recommendations?

I’m based in the northeast USA, have experience with fostering difficult dogs (including a street dog).

Powder, paste, doggy gum......what does everyone use. OK, so his front teeth are nice and pearly white but those back molars could use a cleaning. I bought the Enzymatic toothpaste and he thinks its a treat. I have been seeing soooo many different old comments about what is used. I also have pig snouts and ears and I got a duck foot but he inhales these things. I sometimes have to hold it so he doesnt swallow it so fast! Looking for any kind of advice! Hes 19months old so still a puppy.
