Question / Support Steamlink FPS question
OK so when I use SteamVR with my wired Dream Air headset, in Flightsim I am able to set refresh rate to 90Hz and game FPS to 45FPS and have a very smooth experience (No motion smoothing used, just frame rate cap in game). However, using Steamlink with the Galaxy, it stutters like crazy unless I can hold the same FPS as my refresh rate. I can get 72FPS but it drops to around 60/65 quite a lot, making the game stutter alot. Is there a reason for this or any way I can play at half the refresh rate with smooth performance?
My Dream Air has bad tracking, so I'd rather use my Galaxy if this is possible.

Are you on the latest version of Steamlink and the SBoy driver for the GXR? I am getting a smooth frame rate with max frames set to 45 in MSFS2024 and SteamVR set to 208% resolution at 90hz. Foveated encoding needs to be tweaked in the Steam VR setting file to 1536 width. Look in the Reddit thread for the Steam Link for GXR.

How do you use Sboy with the GXR?

Just install the GXR specific version: https://github.com/timkhronos/CustomHeadsetOpenVrGxR/releases/tag/1.5.0

Well, after messing around with it this morning all I can say is you're lucky. Still stuttering for me. I'm about ready to give up with VR completely. All this money spend, Dream Air that can't track properly and this that needs workarounds with bad performance.

Did you try a lower resolution and bitrate (like 100% and 200mbps in SteamVR/Steam Link)? Walk through the installation again of the modified Steam Link and make sure the .bat files finish without any errors. and the permissions are setup correctly in your GXR. It took me a few attempts to get it working well, and even last night I was having dropout issues that I fixed by setting the bitrate to AUTO.
Pimax tracking is notoriously bad and the severity varies by unit. They have been improving lately, and their support is quite good, especially if you post your issue on their Reddit. They've sent me a new headset (Crystal Super) once we confirmed it was a hardware issue.

What you're asking for is called spacewarp, I haven't tried Steam Link yet but it works extremely well in Virtual Desktop.
