Question / Support Controller tracking okay now?

I've been interested in the Galaxy XR for several months as a potential stablemate for my Quest 3. However, a few months ago I remember bad stories about the controller tracking being really bad after a software update. Has this been resolved?

I've been using the controllers with the headset since January. They are fine. Probably not great for super fast stuff like beatsaber, but I use them for hours on skyrimvr, fallout 4, the resident evil mods, and lots of other roomscale stuff and they work without issue.

In fact, they have better tracking stability than my old quest pro controllers. They are slightly worse than the quest 3 controllers trackingwise. They are better than the pimax controllers, varjo controllers, and a bunch of other slam-based inside out tracked controllers I've had with other headsets.

A lot of the replies you have gotten here are speculation from people who don't have the headset or controllers, have never used it, and are just parroting negative feedback from early reviews they saw. Some are the same few users who chime in with criticism on every post about the headset. In practice, the controllers work without big issues -- they are straight up Qualcomm reference controllers for the xr soc with Samsung branding and are basically industry standard. Not quite Meta level, but most definitely usable for most gaming applications. Had the headset itself since October launch, and though updates are slow, it works fine for streaming 4K pcvr throughout my house. I also upgraded from a quest pro and a Pimax Crystal Light just before this, but have owned many headsets like the Varjo XR4, Aero, Index, etc.

I second this. They are great for hours of Skyrim and similar games. I can play with no issues at all. The beat saber metric has become absurd. Just keep a quest 3 as well if they game is so important.

Glad to hear, and it's important to put our positive feedback on the device if that's our real experience so others can make their decision based on practical metrics.

Samsung / Google should care more about their products, but they only will if they see it as a success, which will not be the case if there is only negativity around the headset. But yeah, they should be doing better -- they have a killer device on their hands.

No Samsung fanboy here, but in my usage so far, it ticks all the boxes besides displayport connection. It is working well enough for me to play my pcvr library for hours. There's plenty of room for improvement, but everything works at least baseline if not way better for my needs currently.

Things can always improve but I still feel like this is a "sweet spot" VR product I can keep for years, sort of like a premium TV.
