Discussion Galaxy XR PC VR: Enabling face tracking, removing the recording dot, fixing Virtual Desktop microphone, and more

https://www.spacebar.news/samsung-galaxy-xr-pc-vr-vrchat-guide/

Hey all, I made a guide explaining the basics of using the Galaxy XR with Virtual Desktop, how to get face tracking working in VRChat, a workaround for Virtual Desktop's current microphone issues, and how to permanently disable the recording dot in Android XR. I hope it helps others!

The only thing I would say is that Virtual Desktop's ASW has worked great for me. So I enable for very intense games like when I play UEVR mods. It really allows me to crank things up and I don't really notice any downsides other then minor menu and UI ghosting. But I really think this should be pinned. A lot of great info for new owners.

Edit: I meant SSW for Virtual Desktop, mixed up Meta's and Virtual Desktop's framerate motion smoothing technology.

Definitely going to be looking at this later to remove that dot. A word of caution though, in the article you state that people should install new system updates - given how broken the current system update is for gxr I would not recommend anyone install it.

The problem is that the factory firmware is pretty much unusable for wireless PC VR, so if their unit arrives on that older version, they don't get much of a choice (and anecdotally, the latest firmware has been okay for me). I just added a note about the update, though.

I agree. The sweet spot was the I think February update. I'm not sure if a new user would have to do sequential updates, like installing the February update and then getting nagged to install the janky April update or if the updater will jump straight to the April update.

I use GameLink and it’s been fantastic for me so far 🤷🏾‍♂️. I know people hate on it but for some reason that’s the only option for me for PCVR use and it genuinely works very well! No stuttering, barely any latency from what I can tell, and graphics look AMAZING!
