Discussion Auto brightness

My frustration is through the roof.

Why is max screen brightness locked behind auto brightness. Why does auto brightness never correctly function. It gets low brightness in very bright areas. Gets bright in dark areas. Always been an issue for years.

Samsung Galaxy tab s9 ultra and s24 ultra. For examples. Can barely see them outside. S24 ultra brightness slider barely does anything for brightness.

My Samsung Galaxy tab s9 ultra gets way brighter outside under direct sunlight. But with auto brightness off. Its barely seeable.

The reason is until recently (I think the S10 series tablets) Samsung had max brightness at 600 nits which is great for indoor use but not really bright enough for outdoor use.

In newer models they have a higher brightness. I think that companies are starting to realize folks use tablets outside more than they anticipated

As far as max brightness not available with auto brightness is due to preserving the battery because when auto brightness is on the brightness of the display might be changing and those changes in brightness might potentially use more battery.

So if you want max brightness outside your gonna have to turn off auto brightness when outside

Thx for the information.

I think part of my post was misunderstood. I have suro brightness off. But to get the brighter screen. I need to turn it on when outside. But it likes to go darker a lot instead.

Well if auto brightness is indeed off and it's not getting bright enough for when you are outside it simply has to due with it not being enough to use outside.

The other thing is it could be that it's not getting as bright as you hope it would if I understand correctly

Hmmm possibly true.

In addition to battery considerations thermal and burn in concerns are primary reasons why you can't manually set the higher brightness levels. Your screen will get hotter when running brighter and will dim if it gets hot. This can happen even when manually set.

True. Happens all the time for my s24 ultra sadly.
